We had too many amazing nurses to feature that we had to extend #NursesWeek! Meet Melodi Spearman, MS/Tele RN! "Taking care of other people is something that I always did naturally so becoming a nurse only made sense. What is the best part of my job? Working three days a week lol. Making a difference and seeing the progress of my patients from when they first got to the hospital until when their discharged. The people I’ve encountered at Mitchell Martin Healthcare, like Christina Impellizeri, have really gone out of their way for me to make sure my needs were met. Everyone is polite & professional ❤️"

#nurse #staffing - it's one of the top issues in #nursing today and this issue is top of mind in Texas too. If you are a #Txnurse, join me and other #nurses from across the state on May 30th in San Antonio, Tx for the Nurse Staffing in Texas Summit. We need frontline nurses, middle managers and CNO's at the table, together, to discuss this question: Are the nurse staffing laws in Texas doing what nurses need them to do? Putting our heads in the sand is not a strategy. We must come together as a #nursing profession to tackle this big topic! One thing is for sure. Leaders should assure bedside staff are highly empowered and engaged with internal staffing shared/professional governance councils at every organization. Effective and financially efficient staffing models can be designed with clinical nurses at the decision-making table as partners with healthcare leaders. Elevating engagement is a key, primary action towards improving nursing and patient outcomes.

After 30+ years in nursing, I’m used to defending the profession, clarifying our role, explaining what nurses really do, etc. At times it has been frustrating and tiresome. Let's use the spotlight placed on nurses during the pandemic as a springboard to get more visible and vocal in the community, in the media, in government, and in business. Let's continue to work collectively to underscore the broad scope of nursing, the true nature of what we do, the value we bring to healthcare, and how we are changing the world in small and large ways every day—each in our own way. #NursePower #NursesOnLinkedIn #nurse

One of the first people to make me feel seen and believed after my traumatic childbirth experience was a nurse. Twelve years ago, I almost died giving birth in America in one of the best in Washington, DC. After 33 hours of labor, (3 of which were spent pushing), a 104 degree fever, doctors declared I needed an emergency C-section. But when I got to the operating room, the doctor there didn't believe that I was in pain. He wanted me to "prove it" to him by demanding I get from the stretcher to the operating table by myself-- unassisted. Obviously I couldn’t, the doctor had no choice but to believe me. That day, both my baby and I almost didn’t survive. I am grateful to be here today but what I am really grateful for was one nurse in particular. In the days and months after a traumatic birth and becoming a new mom, everything was a blur but I was determined to try to find out what the hell happened during my delivery. There was one nurse I spoke with who told me my doctor was “notorious” and was verbally abusive to female patients in the delivery room. She confirmed all my worst fears but she also gave me my sanity and the assurance that I had not imagined anything. It was not “in my head.” This week as we celebrate #nurses, let’s remember how nurses are not just the backbone of the healthcare industry. They are often the first person patients interact with, the ones asking questions and checking your vital signs. 👩⚕️ Women comprise almost 70% of health-care workers globally and nearly 90% of the nursing and midwifery workforce. 👩⚕️ Nursing has been portrayed as a feminine occupation since Florence Nightingale's nursing training in the mid-nineteenth century . 👩⚕️ Male nurses are more likely to work at inpatient hospitals and more likely to negotiate their salaries. 👩⚕️ According to the National Library of Medicine (NLM), 35% of nurses reported burnout. (Source: Incredible Health). Despite doing the bulk of the world’s caretaking, women’s health still remains an afterthought. This #NationalNursesWeek, take a step to change that. #WomensHealth is not an issue that just effects women but ALL of us! #womenshealth #healthcare #thepaingappodcast #nurses
Today, and every day, we celebrate you! During #NationalNursesWeek, we’re recognizing the role of nurse practitioners in our healthcare system, including the 13,000 WHNPs making a difference each day. With advanced education and extensive clinical training, nurse practitioners have the skills and knowledge to provide comprehensive care to patients. The recent recognition of nurse practitioners being ranked No. 1 in the 100 Best Jobs of 2024 by U.S. News & World Report further highlights the impact nurse practitioners make in shaping healthcare and society. Your care, contributions and sacrifices don’t go unnoticed. The work you do makes a difference in the lives of so many. To all the incredible nurses of NPWH and beyond, may this Nurses Week bring you the appreciation and recognition you deserve. Recently had a family member in the hospital. Once AGAIN, I witnessed an experienced RN working with a new RN (her 1st day on the job!) in a supportive way—teaching her, answering questions, and so on. For every negative story you want to tell me about how we treat new nurses, I will give you 5 positive ones. This is based not only on personal observation and experience but also from my research and direct work with new nurses. If you're going to notice (and verbalize) what you perceive to be wrong with nurses/nursing, you'd better also notice/verbalize what is right. Remember: If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. #NursesOnLinkedIn #NursePower #nursesnurturetheirown

We're competent beyond the credit we give ourselves." – PK, RN. Nurses are the ultimate multitaskers, equipped with a diverse skill set that extends far beyond the clinical setting.
