A recent BBC article details the potential upside of using virtual reality (VR) headsets as a type of physical therapy for Parkinson’s. The trial shows great promise in enhancing adrenaline and dopamine production in patients which helps to alleviate symptoms like tremors, stiff movements, and gait issues. A study done over 15 years ago by Dr. Jeffrey Hausdorff from Tel Aviv, Israel had similar beneficial findings as gait issues decreased after just 6 weeks of VR training. At SteadiSpoon, we recognize the incredible ability of technology to reduce Parkinson’s symptoms and improve quality of life. It is encouraging to see continued advancements in treatment as technology progresses. However, we also know that treatments must serve two purposes: to address the physical symptoms but also to empower patients to reclaim their dignity. Whether it is using a VR headset or the SteadiSpoon device, we want all patients to feel comfortable taking life back into their hands. https://lnkd.in/gT-v3Qt2

#PD #balancetraining #BalanceTutor #VR Balance training is an important aspect of managing Parkinson’s disease (PD). Balance Tutor allows different approaches to these patients. - Conceptual Framework for Balance Training that emphasizes specific components of balance control related to PD symptoms. This framework involves highly challenging, progressive, and varying training conditions to address sensory integration, anticipatory postural adjustments, motor agility, and stability limits. - VR Balance Training, which has been used to enhance the effects of balance training in PD. A systematic review and meta-analysis suggest that VR balance training is more effective than traditional balance training alone for improving balance in PD subjects immediately after training, especially in individuals with higher postural instability.

Prevention is better than cure.Marathon organizers should make tests of the vitals mandatory for the participants. There should be an advisory issued by the group asking the participants to consult their health experts after doing the tests. This way casualties which happen during the event can be avoided. www.suvratkotia.com #health#awareness#fitness#Marathon

Palliative care can greatly improve the quality of life for individuals with serious illnesses. Alternative care techniques like massage therapy can help reduce pain and enhance well-being. Palliative care providers often adopt a multi-faceted approach tailored to the individual's needs. Virtual reality (VR) is emerging as a promising tool in palliative care, offering immersive experiences that can manage chronic pain, reduce depression and boredom, and provide escapism for those with physical limitations. While VR technology is currently expensive, research suggests its potential to benefit palliative patients by alleviating pain, anxiety, and stress. In the future, VR may become a valuable tool in end-of-life care. #PalliativeCare #VirtualReality #QualityOfLife
According to the World Health Organization, around 56.8 million people are in need of palliative care every year. As we continue to see the number of patients who require palliative care increase, clinicians should remain open-minded about treatment approaches that help reduce patients’ pain, anxiety and symptoms. Virtual reality has been proven to be a successful treatment option for patients in palliative care and should be considered as one. Our role as healthcare professionals is to identify and deliver care plans that work for each patient. Our teams at VITAS Healthcare continue to advocate for supportive technology and bring it to our patients and caregivers. #VirtualReality #AlternativeTherapies #PatientCare #PalliativeCare
