Food Distributors. "Trucks go vrroom" is a critical component of our food system. The Last Mile Delivery (LMD) is a component of distribution that we take for granted given that it take up over half the costs of delivery (https://lnkd.in/eTCvdnij) and costs are going up year over year. My dataset shows 153 distributors in Canada with a variety of responsibilities. The largest segment is farmers that do their own distribution. That said, a growing trend is brands that sell retail online and wholesale to a retailer through their own distribution network. The smallest segment being small businesses that do small truck delivery over a wide area that typically do fresh produce to high value markets. There's a major push for local food shed development across every province in Canada that I can see. However, this will in turn likely make costs rise although quality should improve. Where do you see the future of distribution of food going? What do you see as major changes happening right now in the industry?

For the Month of June the Basket composition was changed as the readers demanded the inclusion of wholesalers. Moreover, additional supermarkets were added to add more stores to the comparison. When it's cold, wet & dark outside, many supermarket shoppers want quick, easy and convenient meals when they get home. Convenience meal brand Rustlers (a Kepak Group brand) used this seasonal timing to generate record breaking sales of over 550 units per store, per day! LINK created and toured three Rustlers branded burger stands on a tour of 180 Tesco Extras & Superstores. Once customers understood that the microwaveable burgers were properly flame grilled, made with 100% British and Irish Beef and got to taste the thick, juicy beef patties, the negative perception of the brand was quickly changed. What was the power of this type of seasonal campaign timing? Each day over 1,600 shoppers got to See > Try > then Buy the Rustlers tasters. It generated an incredible 23% sample to sale conversion ratio. Average daily sales of 315 units were generated across 180 Tescos. Even a TESCO WORLD RECORD peak sales of over 563 units were sold in just one store, in one day! The campaign was responsible for increasing sales across Tesco's entire ready meal category by 13%!!!
