Championing Equality: Women in Sports Media Leading the Charge Empowering Voices Through Representation: Historically, the sports media industry has been predominantly male-dominated, with women often relegated to the sidelines or confined to stereotypical roles. However, the tide is turning as more women are stepping into prominent positions as journalists, commentators, and analysts. From covering major sporting events to offering insightful commentary, these women are proving that gender is no barrier to expertise and authority in sports media. Their presence not only provides diverse perspectives but also serves as a source of inspiration for future generations of female journalists and broadcasters. Breaking Barriers: Despite significant progress, women in sports media still face numerous challenges, including gender bias, discrimination, and unequal opportunities. However, many courageous individuals are challenging these barriers head-on, refusing to be defined by outdated stereotypes or limited by societal expectations. Through their resilience and determination, they are not only paving the way for themselves but also creating a more inclusive and equitable environment for women in the industry. Their stories serve as a testament to the power of perseverance and the importance of advocating for gender equality in all facets of sports media. Driving Change: Beyond their roles as journalists and broadcasters, women in sports media are also driving change by championing important social issues and promoting diversity and inclusion. Whether it's highlighting the achievements of female athletes, advocating for equal pay, or addressing issues of race and representation, these women are using their platforms to spark meaningful conversations and effect positive change. By amplifying marginalized voices and challenging the status quo, they are helping to shape a more inclusive and progressive sports media landscape for future generations. Conclusion: In conclusion, the contributions of women in sports media cannot be overstated. From breaking barriers to driving change, these trailblazers are not only reshaping the industry but also inspiring a new generation of female journalists, broadcasters, and athletes. As we celebrate their achievements and honor their legacy, let us continue to support and uplift women in sports media, ensuring that their voices are heard and their contributions are recognized. Together, we can create a more equitable and inclusive future for all in the world of sports media. #WomenEmpowerment #EqualityInSports #BreakingBarriers #CricketOttawa

It's 2024, and despite increasing awareness around inclusivity, equality, and authenticity in advertising, we still often see young women as the primary faces in ad campaigns. This raises an important question: Is this practice a result of hypocrisy, habit, or simply effective marketing tools honed over the years? At Pranamat ECO, we recognize that we too have often relied on female models in our advertising. However, today we want to spark a conversation about why this is still so prevalent and how we can move towards more genuine representation in our marketing efforts. What are your thoughts? Why do you think young women continue to dominate ad campaigns, and how can we all push for more diverse and inclusive advertising practices? #PranamatECO #DiversityInAdvertising #Equality #Inclusivity #Authenticity #Marketing #JoinTheConversation

New research shows progress towards parity in how women's sport is perceived and accessed in Australia after co-hosting the FIFA Women's World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023™ , but there is still a long way to go to. Our FanSpeed study in partnership with MKTG Sports + Entertainment Australia uncovered an 8% jump in the number of fans that see men's and women's sport on equal terms. But there's still a large disparity in media coverage, with only one in five Australians believing that the media adequately covers women’s sports. This remains a critical obstacle to achieving gender equity in the sporting world, highlighting the need for continued efforts to improve media coverage and ensure equal representation for men’s and women’s sports.
In 2023, with the help of dentsu Sports Analytics, we have monitored fan views on gender equity to understand the impact of this record-breaking year for women’s sport. We have seen an 8% increase in gender equity perceptions during the year, with 41% of Australian sports fans now recognising men's and women's sports on equal footing, but we are still a long way from the goal of 100% acceptance. Take a look at the report to find out more and understand the biggest barriers to equity.

Director Smart Mobility at Fraunhofer FOKUS and Director Daimler Center for Automotive IT Innovations (DCAITI)
Reflecting on an inspiring keynote at #SXSW2024 with Sue Bird, Jess Robertson, and Justine Brown. They discussed that we need to create “pipelines of opportunities” in and around women’s sports in order to reach equality with the men’s leagues and surrounding programming. Especially since numbers show that women’s sports is more engaging and viewership is growing faster in recent years. Better than before but unfortunately still an issue is open hostility against players not only on social media. Most likely a sign of fragile masculinity, which Jess Robertson casually addresses with “Are you ok?” This challenge isn’t confined to sports; it resonates in the effort to attract more women to MINT fields. The work environment we all create significantly influences women’s participation. Recognizing and addressing toxic behaviors is a testament to women asserting their worth. Let’s champion a positive transformation in both realms. #Equality #WomenInSports #MINT #CulturalShift

https://lnkd.in/eEaiUamG Here it reminds me the quote Sheryl Sandberg is famous for: "In the future, there will be no female leaders. There will just be leaders." 🌟 This is what it looks like to be exceptional to stand out from the crowd to make history but what if women didn't have to be exceptional what if they didn't have to be the first the best or the only woman what if being a female engineer wasn't remarkable what if women and men could compete as equals I don't want to make history I don't want to be the only woman I want to be one of many… Join me to support equality. 💼👩💼 But how do we make this vision a reality? Here are a few ideas: 🌍 Highlight Diversity Initiatives: Let's shine a spotlight on diversity and inclusion initiatives in our workplaces. As a leader in the sports media industry, I've always fought for equality and diversity in my teams. I've also been fortunate to spend almost 10 years in a global company (Warner Bros. Discovery ) that promoted ED&I (equality, diversity and inclusion), provided mandatory training in unconscious bias and recognised our differences as valuable assets. So, I would like to reflect on Joey Barton's recent controversial statements about women in "men's football". For those who missed it, Barton posted this on X: "Women shouldn’t be talking with any kind of authority in the men’s game. Come on. Let’s be serious. It’s a completely different game. If you don’t accept that. We will always see things differently. The women’s game is thriving. Fantastic to see. I cannot take a thing they say serious in the men’s arena." This statement about female pundits started a heated debate on social media and it continued on "Piers Morgan uncensored". During my two decades in sports media most of my female colleagues had to struggle against all kinds of obstacles. For example, women are still not getting equal pay for equal work in our industry. Furthermore, even though they are extremely competent and absolutely brilliant, women still have to prove themselves and work harder compared to men. There has never been any room for mistakes. If a guy gets it wrong on air, it's because he hasn't prepared. (Some of the established male pundits are still laughing on air about not knowing the handball rule. A female pundit can't afford that joke.) If a women gets it wrong, it's because she is a woman. Obviously, Bartons comments are absolute nonsense. On the contrary, we should have more women in key positions in sports tv and more female pundits on air. Especially in many markets where this change is not happening fast enough. This is not a "men’s arena". #sports #media #management #equality
