Managing Partner at LongeVC; Co-Founder/Board Member at Longenesis; founder of several deeptech companies, lecturer
My latest op-ed with Longevity.Technology focuses on a topic that has occupied my mind for a while, both as a patient and as a VC - the need to equalize the importance of mental health and protocol-based pharmacological treatments in acute and age-related disease management. In other words - mechanically patching an acute patient up and ignoring the mental health component, which often suffers unrepairable damage without proper support, can lead to dramatic consequences. It is very often that I encounter the notion of "you are now into remission, you should be so happy", addressed to acute age-related disease patients in oncology, neuro, and other disease domains. The patients, however, are very often anything but happy, struggling with suicidal thoughts, finding new ways to live their lives, and overcoming trauma. It is, thus, absolutely crucial to integrate mental health maintenance into regular treatment protocols and acknowledge it as important as conventional pharmacological interventions. At LongeVC we remain dedicated to mental health tech, constantly looking for founders shaping the space.
Treat the mind, treat the body: Addressing a fundamental gap in acute disease management LongeVC’s Sergey Jakimov explains why mental health care is a crucial aspect of lengthened lifespans. #economy #diseasemanagement #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #longevity
