General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) confirms that its Mojave Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) destroyed static targets in live-fire tests on April 13, 2024, validating the system’s battlefield relevance and recording another milestone for the demonstrator aircraft. GA-ASI partnered with Dillon Aero to mount two of Dillon’s DAP-6 Gun Pod Systems onto the Mojave aircraft. Mojave performed seven passes across two flights during the demonstration, expending around 10,000 rounds of ammunition as the UAS shredded a variety of targets. The live-fire demonstration took place at Yuma Proving Ground, Arizona, and was funded via GA-ASI’s internal research and development budget. The DAP-6 Gun Pod System is a self-contained M134D-H weapon system that mounts to either fixed-wing or rotary-wing aircraft design by Dillon Aero. Manufactured to hang directly from a NATO Weapons Rack, the DAP-6 Gun Pod presents turnkey accessibility and proven firepower in a discrete and aerodynamic container. It utilizes 7.62x51mm NATO ammunition with M13 links, firing 3,000 rounds per minute. The M134D-H Hybrid Gatling Gun is the standard lightweight Minigun design from Dillon Aero. Utilizing titanium and skeletonized parts, the M-134D-H is designed to offer increased weight savings while retaining the longer service life of the steel gun. The hybrid gun system is between 10-20 pounds lighter than the steel system, and has a service life of 1,500,000. Mojave and its short takeoff and landing (STOL) capability has built significant interest in the military and aerospace communities. Mojave is unique: a UAS with significant payload capacity that can perform in areas once considered unsuitable for UAS operations. Its ability to take off and land from unimproved landing sites at short distances as well as operate from aircraft carriers – as it did in November 2023 as part of a demonstration with the United Kingdom’s Royal Navy – is capturing imaginations and changing expectations about how large unmanned systems can be used. The Mojave technical demonstrator shares common systems and components with GA-ASI’s modernized Gray Eagle 25M, effectively providing an expeditionary Gray Eagle STOL capability. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/gpM7CgE6

In a recent interview, former Japanese Defense Minister Onodera Itsunori confirmed that the Philippines’ Department of Defense has requested the transfer or sale of Japanese-made air defense missile systems. This move aims to enhance the Philippines’ overall air defense capabilities, complementing the already approved requests for coastal surveillance radars, air defense radars, and coast guard patrol vessels. The Japan Self Defense Force (JSDF) is considering retiring its Type 81 and Improved HAWK air defense missile systems, which could potentially be transferred to the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Additionally, Japan’s domestically manufactured Type 11 short-range and Type 03 medium-range air defense missile systems could be sold to the Philippines through low-interest financing. The potential transfer of these missile systems underscores the deepening defense cooperation between Japan and the Philippines. MaxDefense reported that Onodera also emphasized the importance of Japan working closely with the Philippines to foster a strong and resilient partnership. He highlighted the advantages of the Philippines’ growing manufacturing industry and youthful population, suggesting that Japan could leverage these strengths to address its own challenges, such as a declining population. Among the proposed initiatives, Onodera mentioned supporting the Philippines in developing its shipbuilding industry, enabling the country to locally build coast guard ships. This collaboration aligns with Japan’s strategic vision of helping the Philippines emerge as a robust military and economic middle power, contributing to peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/gkCiuZVE

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has ordered four additional Airbus A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft for the Royal Saudi Arabia Air Force (RSAF). The first of these aircraft will enter into conversion at the beginning of 2026; they will enter into service and join the RSAF in 2027 to carry out air-to-air refuelling and transport missions. The contract also includes a logistics support package with spare parts, training services and service support for the new four aircraft. All the RSAF A330 MRTT are configured with hose and drogue pods, boom system and also refuelling receptacle, which allows the A330 MRTT to be refuelled from boom-equipped tankers. As part of this contract, Airbus signed in January 2024 an Industrial Participation (IP) agreement with GAMI (General Authority for Military Industries) for the development and growth of the industrial ecosystem in the region in support of Vision 2030, a Saudi-government programme that aims to diversify the country’s economy. This agreement also includes the transfer of technology and knowhow of the RSAF A330 MRTT to local companies. SAAMS, the joint venture created between SAMI (Saudi Arabian Military industries) and Airbus, will be the main vehicle for industrial localisation. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/gNrUagV2

A new U.S. ballistic missile defence site in Redzikowo, Poland is now operational and available for the defence of the Alliance. Dubbed “Aegis Ashore”, the site is part of a larger NATO missile shield and is designed to detect, track and intercept ballistic missiles in flight. NATO’s Ballistic Missile Defence allows for the detection of a missile attack and uses radar data to guide an interceptor to destroy the adversary’s offensive ballistic missile. The missile defence site in Poland can defend against short-to-intermediate range ballistic missiles. Aegis Ashore is a key component of NATO’s Ballistic Missile Defence “Enhanced Operational Capability” declared by Allied Heads of State and Government at the Washington Summit. NATO BMD is designed to counter the increasing threat posed by the proliferation of ballistic missiles in the vicinity of the south-eastern border of the Alliance. In recent years, for example, Allies have noted concerns about Iran’s intensified missile tests and the range and precision of its ballistic missiles. The aim of NATO BMD remains to provide full coverage and protection for all NATO European populations, territory and forces against ballistic missiles from outside the Euro-Atlantic area. This core aim is based on the principles of indivisibility of Allied security and NATO solidarity, equitable sharing of risks and burdens, as well as reasonable challenge. It also takes into account the level of threat, affordability and technical feasibility, and is in line with the latest common threat assessments agreed by the Alliance. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/gn5dQqxv

Collins Aerospace, an RTX (NYSE: RTX) business, successfully demonstrated mobile, distributed command and control during a series of fires, networking and mission command experiments at INDOPACOM’s Valiant Shield exercise. Collins partnered with the U.S. Army’s 1st Multi-Domain Task Force to conduct the experiments—inside a ground vehicle—to rapidly reconfigure and deploy capabilities based on evolving mission needs. The mission command ‘on-the-move’ concept uses commercial and military communications networks to provide access to multiple intelligence sources. To ‘make sense’ of the data from various sources, the company used an AI/ML battle management software. This created fused situational awareness that can be shared with bilateral and joint force partners. Valiant Shield is a biennial field training that builds real-world proficiency in sustaining U.S. forces through detecting, locating, tracking, and engaging units at sea, in the air, on land, and in cyberspace in response to a range of mission areas. The exercise is one of the largest United States military war games held in the Pacific Ocean. Aircraft from Valiant Shield deployed on missions ranging across the Pacific all the way to Alaska. Ships simulated anti-submarine warfare. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/gE6fXyCj

The Lithuanian Government has approved the Ministry of the Economy and Innovation’s proposal to grant the German military industry leader Rheinmetall the status of a project that meets the urgent security and defence needs of the country. This allows the company’s Lithuanian Centre of Excellence for Ammunition to benefit from special investment and commercial conditions related to the fast-track set-up of the plant. Back in June, the Ministry signed an agreement with Rheinmetall for its expansion in Lithuania – the project has been granted the status of a large-scale project. With an investment of more than €180 million, the new plant is expected to create at least 150 new jobs. To ensure Lithuania’s security, the country’s Parliament has already approved amendments to the law to facilitate the development of large-scale projects at the initiative of the Ministry of Economy and Innovation. The amendments simplify territorial planning, land procurement, and construction procedures. This will allow defence industry companies to start operations in Lithuania in the shortest possible time. The ‘Green Corridor’ initiative for large-scale investment projects, developed by the Ministry of the Economy and Innovation and launched in 2021, makes it easier and quicker for investors to set up operations in Lithuania, granting their project a status of state importance and a 0% corporate tax rate for a period up to 20 years. The Ministry of the Economy and Innovation has already signed contracts for 14 large-scale investment projects, which will create nearly 4,000 jobs and attract more than €1.25 billion in investment. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/gXSqvS-K
