"Don't mix family and business" is common advice. And I completely disagree with it. I've never forgotten the example of Bill Scannell and Kevin Scannell at EMC... Both key leaders in the greatest technology sales organization ever assembled. Or the lessons we were all taught growing up in Chuck Veth's business. So, my two cents? Mix them. As much as you can. There is nobody better to be in battle with than the people that know and love you the most... And the pros are well worth the cons.
I can’t think of any business started by families that succeed... except, you know... really small ones ...like DuPont, WalMart, Koch Industries, annnnnnd 90% of the logistics companies I did business with, most of the dental clinics I worked with, most companies started in the early 20th century that are still around... (Notice I did not mention the Duke brothers from 'Trading Places'!) Conventional wisdom is often wrong... It really depends on how solid your family is… the Kellogg family- super successful but not a good example. And we’ll ignore the James Brothers and Ma Barker’s kin. Have a great weekend! 😀
Proud of you guys! Fun to have a front-row seat to the success of Veth Group.
Veth family is unstoppable
Love this, Miles. So cool to have your brothers working in your business with you.♥️
This really depends on your family relationship, I agree with you because I have a very close family , but I've seen this go bad fairly often during my days in banking. When the business is struggling or one person puts in more work the family falls apart.
No better name then CVR & son’s.

1moWe are third generation farmers going on our fourth generation to be added this year! Family business is a dance! One thing I love about working with family is that each member has skin in the game, so nobody is apathetic, but instead each works harder, pouring in blood, sweat, tears, and prayer with gusto and endurance! Having the family business(the farming operation) succeed is worth more than money! It’s a heritage! It’s a legacy! It’s respect associated with your name! It doesn’t work for everybody and that’s o.k. I for one am grateful for our family business! 🚜🇺🇸
