I can’t believe it’s been just over one year since I started transforming Mamma Ramona's Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria into an experiment and execution of pizza making through automation. Before I immersed myself on this project, I was on a mission to level the playing field against DoorDash and Uber eats for independent delivery driver fleets that had been providing restaurant deliveries long before these companies existed, through the RMDA. Our team pulled 500+ fleet companies together and under a single API, single billing contact and single point of contact, forged partnerships that brought opportunities to all of the companies in our group. ezCater was our biggest win, but we also provided drivers to Sauce, Nash, Burq and other platforms. Orders flowed to fleets and fleets managed the orders. Some fleets paid drivers well; some fleets, not so much. The model to follow, though, was dlivrd because drivers respected those companies that valued them above everything else, and drivers make it happen. dlivrd acquired my company, Nimble Deliveries (Acquired by dlivrd.io) and I still play a role there, albeit a very small one, but what I love most is continuing the mission to level the playing field and bring opportunities direct to the drivers that work with us. We deliver for restaurants on Toast, Olo, Cartwheel and VROMO, as well as for platforms like ezCater, Sharebite and 7-Eleven. And we’re branching out into non-perishables - wherever we can find more opportunities for our drivers. It’s because of the respect we pay to drivers, from pay to incentives, and in giving back, that we have 10,000+ active drivers working with us. And the story below illustrates why.

Celebrating the completion of my first 30-day at Causeway today and what a ride it’s been so far! 🤝 I was lucky to meet the entire Mkg team face to face on Day-1 💻 Followed by multiple other Product and GTM intros 🎯 Built Q4 OKRs and baked those into my 30-60-90 roadmap. ✍ Jumped right into delivering some new copy blocks we urgently needed ⚙ Started reviewing processes needing improvement. 🎓 Started a long, but exciting and rewarding journey of learning everything about the Causeway story, our value to customers, our products and our positive impact on the industry. At my 1-month review, I was asked what I liked so far about the role and if it met my initial expectations. I really enjoy the opportunity to interact with so many functions across the business and to be involved in a wide variety of work streams. I feel like my input is valued and interactions are based on trust and respect.  My big tickets are also interesting projects that don’t come across often in a career, another reason to feel motivated and excited about what’s coming next. This is not just me honeymooning my way around your Linkedin feed 😅 The idea is that if you have some time today, take a moment to pause and reflect on what makes you happy at work, what drives you to show up positive or willing to make a difference, and what little wins you can celebrate when looking back into the rear mirror, however small or big they might be. Some gentle introspection might just be what’s needed to connect back to the essential of (professional) happiness. And a good way to end the week too. Happy Friday!

I even spent time at Cingular (yes, dating myself here), followed by stints at AT&T and Verizon before venturing into the rental car industry, where I spent a solid decade until COVID brought about unexpected changes. The StretchDollar team had two birthdays this week (hbd Kaiza Molina and Lauren O’Leary!!!) and we're coming up on our own as a company. Here's a few lessons I've learned from the fastest year of my life - my first as a founder: 1. "Repetition has never spoiled a prayer." Being a broken record is a good thing when it comes to the mission and vision of what you're building. 2. It's your job to find the joy in the process of building. It'll be infectious. 3. Strategy is way less important than execution. 4. People want you to win. They'll help you. Pay it forward when you can. 5. Your first customers will teach you more in a day than you'll learn in a month on your own. 6. Learn to be present. 50% of your attention is worth 0% of your time. 7. The right team pointed at the right problem is most of the job. 8. Some moments require flexibility, others rigidity. Practice being able to spot which is which. 9. Establish your company as a c-corp based in Delaware.
