Someone told me that life is like a garden. The best you can do is to try to create conditions in which things can thrive. You can't control the sun, the rain, or the deer. You can only try to manage them to help other things, that are equally beyond your control, to flourish. This week my kids reminded me of how glorious it is to see it when it is working. My son is in the middle of field training exercises at West Point, and my daughter is competing in the US Olympic Team Trials for swimming. It is a joy to watch them struggle and grow as they reach for the sun. There are seasons to everything. Some are good and productive, and others less so. All we can do is show up in the garden, get to work, and hope that the actions we are taking are helping more than they are hurting.
Amazing kids come from strong and equally amazing parents by teaching them a strong work ethic and grit. Love watching your kids thrive.
I remember when they were just tiny babies/toddlers - look at them now! Very cool, very impressive!
Wow, amazing kids … clearly they got their grit from their excellent parents!
We’ve been thinking about y’all all week. Great reflection on parenting and gratitude!
Love love love it
