I was watching the F1 Montreal race yesterday. George Russel was in second trying to overtake Max Verstappen for the lead. He missed the execution and actually lost second place to Lando Norris.
This can only be speculation, but it seemed like he was so focused that on overtaking and being in first that he lost sight and therefore his attention on what was most important.
Whether that be the correct strategy for overtaking, being in the right place on the track, or any number of things.
There are so many moving parts, at such high speeds in F1 it’s hard to say what the right place and the right time to focus attention is. However, I can say one thing. Focusing on the person ahead of you and the place you are not in is likely the wrong place to focus when you’re trying to execute a precise and accurate maneuver.
