Most companies these days are racing to integrate AI into their services. From Apple Intelligence to Google Gemini, Microsoft’s Copilot, etc., companies are adding AI into their apps and services wherever they can. In a recent conference in Shanghai, Smartphone company Honor has revealed a new AI feature to detect AI Deepfake. It’s an on-device tool that can examine videos frame-by-frame to evaluate whether it’s generated by AI or not. It does this by looking at eye contact, lighting, image clarity, and video playback to detect things that might be invisible to the human eye. If the feature feels that it’s a deepfake, it will generate a popup saying, “Honor scam alert. It looks like the other person could be using AI to swap their face.” https://lnkd.in/gu57yPaD

While Google has a history of AI integration in consumer products, Bard was their notable venture into sophisticated AI systems similar to chatbots, but with broader capabilities. Despite Bard not fully meeting expectations, Google has not slowed down. They've introduced Gemini, a highly advanced multi-modal AI system that processes text, images, and videos. Gemini is reported to outperform its rivals in 30 out of 32 benchmarks, signaling its potential impact in the AI field. Google's Gemini, available in three versions – Nano, Pro, and Ultra, caters to a range of devices, from servers to smartphones. This move reflects a growing trend in the AI industry, where companies like OpenAI have set high standards with their models. Gemini's debut is significant, potentially challenging the dominance of established AI systems like GPT and sparking new advancements in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

Part of reasons we are building some AI systems is based issues that we as human can handle. While these new systems may solve smaller problems, they introduce newer bigger problems. Take an example of Humane AI Pin, whose design is premised on the claim that smart phone screens are harmful, yet it introduces human Into a space where they can't verify the source of the information they are interacting with. "Most interactions with your phone screen at least try to give you an option to understand the provenance of the information it delivers. Humane’s Ai Pin gets in the way of your fact-checking by design thanks to the premise from which Humane built its device: that smartphone screens are harmful."

One of the trends that interests me the most with AI at the moment is outside the world of work. It's the push into consumer hardware. We've seen the launch of a few devices recently including the Rabbit R1 🐇, Humane AI Pin 📌 and Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses 👓. Some have already been panned by the critics (I'm looking at you Humane AI Pin ) while others are showing some promise. Right now though, they mostly seem to be a novelty and a way to test what kind of experiences people want. I've jumped in and ordered a Rabbit R1 to test it out in the real world and see if these kinds of tools are something that will become part of my day to day. I do have some questions though like: 🟣 Why isn't this just an app on my smartphone? 🤷♂️ 🟣 Have I wasted my money? 🟣 Can I expense this? In all seriousness, understanding how to incorporate AI in all its forms into my routine is one of the keys to making the most of it. It's like re-training muscle memory and approaching the task you've done a thousand times in a new way. Anyone else bought any of these tools, and if so what's your experience been like? #ai #artificialintelligence #automation
