Behavioural Scientist dedicated to improving outcomes for children living with serious illness, & their families
Today is World Retina Day. It is important that research about Inherited Retinal Diseases is guided by what matters most to those who will be impacted by it. That is why my committed steering group of individuals with lived experience, health professionals and researchers are undertaking the Vision Loss Priority Setting Partnership. The Vision Loss Priority Setting Partnership will identity the top 10 priorities in Inherited Retinal Diseases, from the perspective of individuals living with an Inherited Retinal Disease, guardians/family members, and health professionals caring for these individuals. The first survey of the Vision Loss Priority Setting Partnership is now live. Click here to participate in our 5-minute, anonymous survey. Your responses in this survey will guide what is in the final top 10 research priorities. https://lnkd.in/gWfZ8dGp Sharing this survey will also make sure that all individuals with lived experience of an IRD and their health professionals have the opportunity to voice their opinions. To learn more about the Vision Loss Priority Setting Partnership, check out this short video: https://lnkd.in/gnxbSGGe Any questions? As the global population continues to age, the number of people set to develop Alzheimer's will continue to grow by the millions. By adopting the use of biomarkers in clinical studies, we can expedite data collection and reduce some barriers to clinical trial entry from diverse, older populations. This focus will provide new insights and fuel a future with better data collection and better solutions that reflect the total population—including historically unrepresented communities.
RCMAR Workshop at GSA “Use of Health-Related Biomarkers in Studies with Diverse Older Adults to Promote Health Equity and Address Health” (Nov 8): Learn about the importance of bridging biomarkers with social and behavioral factors to health outcomes. Hear NIA-funded researchers explain their use of biomarker data in research, and engage in discussions about conducting research in diverse communities. Learn how to identify areas of needed research that includes collection of biomarkers among diverse older adults, including AD/ADRD studies. Workshops are free to ASM attendees; however, pre-registration for all workshops is required. Space is limited for each Workshop. Learn more: https://rb.gy/tbnm7

#CBCAwardee Dr. Edward Thorp and fellow Northwestern University have been selected to lead 1 of only 3 research centers nationally as part of a $15 million American Heart Association research initiative into inflammation and heart disease. These awards come at a critical time. Of special interest is the role of inflammation in patients with “heart failure with preserved ejection fraction” -- a condition that accounts for more than half of heart failure in the US. It is estimated that 50% of patients with this condition will die within 5 years. 3 projects led by Dr. Thorp and other Northwestern University professors will investigate this condition and other others associated with inflammation and cardiac health. We look forward to the outcomes. https://lnkd.in/gy3kEtrN #ChicagoBiotech #ChiBiotech #HeartHealth

Grateful to be invited to attend the Long Covid Conference: Impacts, evidence and better care from Victoria Health, Australia. Survey in the state of Victoria (jan'20-oct'22) showed that 14% developed LC with pre-dominantly fatigue and brain fog. Female>male. Markers of immune dysfunction persisting to up to two years in LC patients. Long Covid clinic specialists noticed that majority of patients do recover! Trials and research are promising. In the meantime a focus on MDT and bio-psycho-social approach to symptoms is the golden standard. This research will also help CFS/ME patients.
