I have always loved Vacation Bible School (VBS) since I was a small child…
How exciting it is that Minier Christian Church - my small rural church (also a food pantry provider to 30 + families in a rural Illinois food dessert & an agency parter of ours) decided to have this year’s VBS kiddos host a cereal food drive for my division of Midwest Food Bank, in Peoria IL (& the friendly competition between the K-6 grade boys & girls is fun!)
They also asked me to be a guest speaker this evening & the kids were amazed to learn of the amount of food we are able to provide local area food pantries in the tri-county area and beyond…all free of charge (thanks to generous donors and food rescue). They may have even learned more about what a food bank is & the work we do & certainly learned about the ministry supporting our mission to share the love of Christ as we provide food to so many hungry people!
I also hope they will be excited about talking with their parents about coming to volunteer with us in the future!
In the meantime, I am simply grateful for each opportunity to connect youth in our community with our mission & ministry.
