In an article today (https://lnkd.in/ep9uwkBb ), McGuire Woods describes the new SEC rules for public company disclosure of climate related matters. The rules have been and will continue to be controversial. No matter how you feel about the rules, the fact is that the risks and costs associated with weather have been increasing, as seen in the chart below. Our work of preserving green space has a direct impact on the streams and rivers in our region. We can't stop the rain, but we can provide soil for it to sink into, and plants to thirstily drink it, rather than hard surfaces that shed it. Rain is a natural occurrence but disastrous consequences of rain can be mitigated, and we do our best to do so.

Woodwell’s Dr. Zachary Zobel uses climate models to predict climate extremes and catastrophes. Models show that the dry season is lengthening in many fire regimes. And in California, it’s extending into the high winds season, creating the conditions for the record-setting fire seasons they’ve experienced in recent years. 🔊 Learn more by listening to our “Fireside Chat” with three Woodwell Climate researchers. https://lnkd.in/gp-PDJNJ (🎥 : Nichole Chapman) #boreal #forests #wildfire #ClimateChange #ClimateCrisis #ClimateEmergency #ClimateSolutions #ClimateScience #ClimateJustice #EnvironmentalJustice
