As we have entered 2024, we’re excited to hear from many healthcare organizations planning for accelerated growth in the use of remote monitoring solutions to expand access to quality care. While most provider organizations have launched initiatives in remote monitoring programs, the focus is now shifting to expanding these solutions for wider adoption - delivering virtual care to more patients that need it. Increased patient volumes will be driven by strong execution around proven clinical use cases, along with the expansion into new realms like kidney disease management, high-risk maternity, and weight management. As a key enabler for virtual care delivery growth, the 2024 Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) from CMS introduces many pivotal changes. 📢📢 Exciting news for the #RPM industry! Yesterday, Congresspeople from Florida, California, and Alabama introduced a new bill that, if passed, would eliminate Medicare cost-sharing for RPM services. The National Rural Health Association, the National Association for Home Care & Hospice, and the Partnership for Quality Home Healthcare have all endorsed the bill, citing the importance of remote monitoring for aging seniors and rural populations. A few things I noticed in the text of the bill: 👏 The bill proposes to add to the Social Security Act an explicit requirement that Medicare pay 100% of the reimbursement established for "remote physiologic monitoring services" under the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule. ⛔ Unfortunately, by limiting the proposal specifically to remote physiologic monitoring services, it unnecessarily excludes remote therapeutic monitoring services from the same benefit. This could lead to confusion and place an unfair burden on patients receiving RTM. We know that cost-sharing obligations can pose a barrier to receiving RPM services for Medicare patients without supplemental or Medicaid coverage. With this discrepancy between RPM and RTM, though, I'm not sure how far the bill will make it. Some progress is better than no progress, right? Carrie Nixon Rebecca E.
