Did you know that most workers who commute to Sydney from the Central Coast are paying more than $2000 a month in tolls? Shocking, I know! Last week Aaron Burkill and I attended the Gosford Erina Business Chamber breakfast where I learnt this astounding fact. Luckily, MP Liesl Tesch shared that they're working on capping tolls which will significantly reduce these expenses for commuters! Overall, it was great to hear from the President, Peter Lawley, and MP members, David Harris, David Mehan, and Liesl Tesch, and their vision to bring work closer to home by pushing for more housing and job opportunities. With many of the Central Coast Community commuting out of the Central Coast for work (primarily to the Sydney CBD), I can't wait to see the positive impacts of this initiative on both workers and the Central Coast economy. Nonprofit nerd that I am, a few years ago, I created a mission statement for myself. So, I'm in the midst of relocating from the Lone Star State to the Cornhusker State, from the land of BBQ to the land of... corn cobs? I want to take a moment to appreciate all the candidates I've asked to relocate in the past. Relocating for a career move is a significant opportunity for growth and advancement, but also stressful and chaotic. Here's a snapshot of my relocation journey so far: 1️⃣ Packing: Attempting to fit my Texas-sized belongings into Nebraska-sized boxes 2️⃣ Goodbyes: Explaining to my friends that Omaha isn't just Payton Manning's favorite word 3️⃣ Weather Prep: Googling "how to survive a Nebraska winter" and investing in more layers than an onion 4️⃣ Embracing Change: Learning that "Y'all" is now "You guys", "Howdy" is now "Hey there!" and "Coke" is now "Pop" And... they don't celebrate Homecoming with Mums (if you're from Texas, you know exactly what I'm talking about.) To all you job #candidates considering a move, know that I'm now in your shoes and when you find the right company like I have... it is worth it. Hang in there. I hope you're all enjoying the beginning of the holiday season! 🍁 As a realtor based in Santa Cruz & serving the wider Bay Area, I frequently encounter people who have relocated out of state and later expressed dissatisfaction with life here. However, being a native San Franciscan, I've witnessed the ebb and flow of downtown streets and I'm not surprised to see many individuals returning after trying their luck in different states – I did the same! What drew me back was not only our fantastic weather & natural coastal beauty but, more importantly, the diversity, positive outlook, and job opportunities that abound here! For me, the following quote perfectly encapsulates my sentiments: "It's not just workers returning. It's new jobs being created in some of these burgeoning industries like AI. The Bay Area remains this epicenter of innovation when it comes to tech." The region's inclusivity, environmental consciousness, and rich diversity are aspects I deeply cherish. I relish the experience of connecting with individuals from a wide array of backgrounds, transcending race and religion to encompass all facets of life. Another aspect of the Bay Area that I adore is the abundance of diverse communities to choose from, all within a manageable commute. For instance, residing in Santa Cruz often entails a shorter commute to Santa Clara compared to Fremont. Yet, each of these communities offers fantastic grocery stores, restaurants, and hiking opportunities, allowing you to tailor your living experience to your preferences.
