Capital Health, which has hospitals in Trenton and Hopewell, New Jersey, is the latest medical system to be affected by a cybersecurity issue that is causing a major network outage. Experts predict that based on previous cyberattacks on healthcare systems, this is likely a ransomware attack. While their hospitals are admitting and treating patients, there are some disruptions. Outpatient radiology, as well as some cardiology testing, are not available. Cyber reporting can vary state by state, but the ramifications of a #cyberattack can affect individuals across the country. While only 50 patients of Fairfax Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery are located in Maine, Maine's strict reporting rules required them to notify the 235,931 patients across the country of the breach. While Fairfax (based in Virginia) concluded its investigation and is confident that the data has not been put up for sale, the state of Maine is ensuring that #patients nationwide are to receive protection from Fairfax, which has now offered all customers a year's worth of free identity protection services. Fairfax's investigation has also concluded that infiltrators could have copied and exfiltrated files rather than outright steal and lock the system behind them.
