Has anyone considered the population of individuals who swore off commercial fitness during the pandemic and pivoted towards the always-open, immune to lockdowns, never-crowded, bespoke audio/video entertainment, direct line to management, etc. garage/home (yes you need to have access to those spaces) fitness setup as a contributor to this shift away from traditional gyms? Healthspan--a term that describes the subset of your lifespan where you are healthy enough to do what's important to you--has never been more important. Gyms make a forever promise around maximizing healthspan. But many don't deliver--often because members aren't engaged enough to keep coming back. Ultimately they cancel. Right now, many budget gyms are struggling because consumer subscriptions are down. Not because consumers are already healthy enough. Not because consumers don't care about healthspan. Not because Ozempic, Wegovy and the other semaglutides are making exercise a think of the past--in fact it turns out that these drugs reduce muscle mass and require workouts as part of a healthy program. People are leaving because they aren't using the gyms, and looking for places where they're going to get results. Community is a big part of that. So is convenience.
