Has ‘tit-for-tat’ replaced the value of ‘back-and-forth’ in culture? The silent treatment is not going to help anyone grow, or make friends. Respectful disagreement is how we push ourselves outside our comfort zone. It’s how we make best friends, and learn to accept we can look at an issue from many facets. Appropriate comments enrich, don’t detract from the conversation. Conflict avoidance and selective blindness—on the other hand—lead organizations and individuals astray. This week's exploration: What holds us back from using our voice may be the very same thing that holds back society (link in the comments.) #narrative #culture #value #business #socialenergy

It's worth listening to James Timpson and his 'upside down management approach'. A lot of fabulous nuggets of wisdom about leadership and doing business with kindness. I fundamentally believe if we treat employees well and listen to people on the shop floor, we all prosper and do well because; -Wellbeing goes up -Anxiety and fear goes down -People stick around for a fabulous work culture https://lnkd.in/gseh6nV4 Integrity and authenticity goes a long way when you see this in leadership

Collaboration Consultant | Educator | Transforming meetings so leaders can improve health and the environment
Third in a series -- the Power of Humble Listening Listening with humility is paradoxically powerful. With humility (defined as a modest and unassuming perspective on one's own significance), we can bridge gaps, strengthen relationships, and nurture true understanding. Humility has nothing to do with humiliation. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines humiliate as "to reduce (someone) to a lower position in one's own eyes or others' eyes: to make (someone) ashamed or embarrassed." When we are truly humble, we are neither lower or higher than anyone else and we feel respected and whole. As a culture, we find ourselves in a time of crisis and disillusionment about the future. In the West, there is an ever-shrinking number of core values upon which we agree, and we struggle to find ways to communicate on those issues on which we disagree. This polarization touches virtually every part of life—our work and leisure, personal identity, character formation, politics, education, civic society, and the role of the church. We are at war with ourselves not only over who we want to be as individuals and as a society but even on the basis from which we would make this determination. This idea of redeeming networks and institutions is essentially about building and strengthening these cultural pillars in order to engage and shape culture. For more on this topic, check out my latest article entitled Culture's Core Pillars at the link below: https://lnkd.in/gKtg5cVY I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. Evan Smith recently joined Jon Fortt on Fortt Knox, and they cover a lot of ground that you won't want to miss. See below for five key highlights! 1️⃣ Today's toughest problem: globalization is breaking down. Society is reckoning with the side effects and unintended consequences of outsourcing-driven globalization. https://lnkd.in/g4JXnkVg 2️⃣ Altana's approach: we start with a world-leading, bottoms-up picture of the network and use a federated learning approach to bring that together with sensitive data in a customer-specific context. https://lnkd.in/gpGJNG7g 3️⃣ Evan's origin: how growing up in a small fishing town at the end of the road in Alaska helped him develop a superpower of knowing how to relate to people from all different walks of life. https://lnkd.in/g5EG8kdA 4️⃣ Evan's core belief on business leadership: in any dynamic, there's something to learn. If you orient yourself toward a growth mindset, that culture will permeate an organization. https://lnkd.in/gxgyYdyx 5️⃣ Altana's strategic imperative: providing the tools for interorganizational collaboration across value chains. https://lnkd.in/gBd2BhnJ
