In a recent Forbes article, Dr. Madhukar Pai underscores the critical role of communications in public health and the imperative for public health professionals to train in communications. Dr. Pai emphasizes the urgent need to bridge the “know-do gaps” in combatting misinformation and disinformation and rebuilding public trust. In addition to Dr. Pai’s excellent points, it is equally critical that public health academicians and practitioners call upon the cadre of highly-trained communications professionals in their universities, agencies, and organizations. We stand at the ready with deep experience in framing op-eds, mobilizing high-impact social media campaigns, and cultivating ‘media-ready’ subject matter experts. With the rise of AI and often polarized viewpoints, elevating accurate, authenticated, and impactful communications will take all of us – and your communications partners are core members of a comprehensive and effective team. To this point, Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) recently released a resource tool kit Tackling Information: The Communications Industry Unites to prepare communications professionals for the challenging information and media landscape ahead. To Dr. Pai, thank you for shining a bright light on the integral role of communications in public health. To my communications colleagues, our skills and experience have never been more crucial – thank you for sharing your talents and passion to rebuild public trust in our institutions and fight misinformation. To my public health colleagues, thank you for keeping the public’s best interest and the science at the center of all you do to revitalize trust and fight disinformation in all its forms. Together, we will achieve great things. https://lnkd.in/ecMVfTRn

Strategic communications consultant, ex-JLL Inc. & Aon plc | Reputation | Media | Social | Thought leadership & content marketing | Crisis comms | Internal & change comms
#TheRulesOfComms Rule 3 | Take an interest in the outside world This one is probably given for most people working comms, and we could come up with multiple reasons why it’s so important. My starter for ten: ✅ We can understand where our company or client fits in the bigger picture and that helps us stay relevant/ adding value ✅ It means we’re connected with and listening to our audiences and stakeholder groups ✅ it means we can keep track of opportunities as well as risks, and be on the front foot to respond to both What else would you add? #corporatecommunications
