Bye Pitch app 👋 and hello Figma slides! ✨😌 I think Figma just killed Pitch decks, Canva presentations, Google slides, Apple keynotes, and Microsoft powerpoints altogether 😅 Let me explain why as a Product Designer… I have been using the Pitch app for my client presentations over the last few years because they are awesome: ✔️ Trendy layouts ✔️ Easy to control and manage styling and restyling ✔️ Easy to produce slides ✔️ Funny stickers and GIFs ✔️ No UX frustration like in other presentation tools BUT! New Figma Slides have all mentioned above + even crazier features like those: 1. Bird's eye view 🦅 👁️ - you can see and reorder slides from a bigger picture to focus on the storytelling 2. AI content update with a manageable tone of voice controls 🎮 🤯 3. PUTTING CLICKABLE PROTOTYPE INSIDE THE SLIDE 🔥🔥🔥 4. Design mode to create some custom magic with Figma’s editing tool. 🖌️ The only feature of the Pitch app that keeps its uniqueness is the statistical data for slides 📊 If Figma adds that in the next version, they will be unstoppable! 💪🏻 #figma #config #config2024

Inclusive Design Leader, Accessibility Ops | Author, Speaker, + Facilitator | topics: queer and disabled futures, autism, neurodiversity, disability, and LGBTQIA+ inclusion
Figma announced a new feature/product that a lot of Figma users are very excited about (especially people that were already using Figma for slides). And for good reason, as Eugene details below! But Figma still has a lot of accessibility work to do because slides (or any PDFs) exported are not accessible to assistive technology, SEO, and search functionality. From Figma Learn: “Figma exports text as glyphs, which means you won’t be able to edit any text in the final PDF. You can still select and copy text when viewing the PDF in the browser or other compatible software.” This means that there is only vectors in the PDF file when exported and there aren’t mechanisms to set tabbing order or other accessible functions. When tested with screen readers and OCR, Figma exports often do not pick up correct word order, skip words (especially with display fonts), or try to read non-letters as letters. This makes it not possible to use for user-/customer-facing assets (especially in regulated industries, companies doing business in the EU, Canada, or other countries with accessibility regulations) or distributing org-wide. The most you could do with it is use it internally for personal use or in presentations where you know it will not be distributed, but then you might be maintaining two separate deck templates. For reference, I usually use PowerPoint or Google Slides because I have the most confidence in transferability/accessibility support, but you also have to use the features to make it accessible! Another thing is not everyone will have a Figma license and everyone in your org likely has Microsoft Office. If you want presentations across the org to be cohesive and to have a lot of accessibility built in, setting up a cool branded template and offering templates in Figma or other software of your choice to export graphics (which you then give alt text) is a great way to go! If you don’t have access to PowerPoint via your org, you can always download the free version of Adobe Acrobat or WebAIM and use their accessibility checker on any PDF to make sure your presentation is accessible. Pitch and Canva slides have the same issues as Figma as far as accessibility, i've not had issues with Keynote but there isn’t a built in checker so I try not to use Keynote. Using Keynote for distribution involves exporting the file and importing into PowerPoint or Acrobat in order to ensure accessibility. If your idea is “distribution is ‘outside the design team’ only”- I’m a disabled leader and practitioner who uses assistive tech! If you’re a UX or Product designer and you are interested in learning more about accessibility, I’m teaching a live course on Maven starting July 26th - link to my class and resources for accessible presentations in first comment! If you’re interested in having me host an event or consult on designing for inclusion and accessibility, get in touch! #a11y #accessibility #EAA #EuropeanAccessibilityAct #28June2025 #a11yTraining

I am not a power point power user. I find the tool doesn’t give me the freedom to create slides easily. However. I do appreciate their accessibility support and inspect tool. I have used the Figma Deck plugin to export to PPT before. I will give this a try next week. #accessibility #powerpoint

Have Figma slides killed every other presentation app? Here’s what I think... More often than not presentations are designed to look clean & cohesive. With its in-built templates, Figma is doing just that. The features have been well thought out • Professionally designed templates • Collaborative working space • Interactive prototype can be embedded • Ai text rewriter • Design mode for full design control I can’t imagine how much time it would save for a non-designer to design a deck using its templates + saving a lot of the designer’s bandwidth. But will this be enough to take the top spot and dethrone giants like Powerpoint, Google Slides and Keynote? Currently, I don’t think so. A lot of people would still make a bank out of Powerpoint. For designers, the beta features are enough to make it an instant switch. Figma slides prove to be a mutual space for non-designers to use Figma and it’s just heading in the right direction overall, in my opinion. What do you think? Let me know. #figmaconfig2024 #figma #flides #figmaslides #figmaconfig
