Reflecting on RIMS 2024. San Diego - city of jazz flute and the legend that is Bergundy. It was great to see old colleagues Richard Sheldon Brian McBride Fiona MacLeod. Takeaways: 1)PFAS has emerged and the recent intervention level of 4ppt is going to create massive issues. Challenges to enforce, liability coming from superfund and CERCLA structures. Joint and several liability and so on. 2) how are are carriers going to reserve for ongoing existing claims - upwards I guess but what scope the increased liability in all parts of the supply chain. 3) AI is here for risk reduction and process improvements - but the actionable outcomes MUST benefit carrier and client. 4) Emerging Risk is being created by technological advance AND legislature process more than a relaxation of operational standards. 5) Knowledge - the C-Suite have a really difficult job as increasing analaytics erode the “fortuitous” and SIUU wordings across liability. All my conversations this week have moved the dial for SaaS deployment into active underwriting and reserving. Hazard Evaluation Ltd taking an approach that benefits all of the above for emerging chems. I can’t wait to join help clients keep their risk profiles classy.
