Yesterday’s annual board retreat for Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities was a fantastic example of how to continue to bring your brand’s strategic plan to life. Last year’s retreat featured the sharing and launch of the plan – that included the launch of the updated values and us putting (along with many others) our handprints on the values wall. This year is the plan being fully activated, which presents significant change within the agency. Here’s what was so successful about yesterday’s meeting: ▪️We broke into groups and heard from the various teams about each strategic priority. The teams reminded us: why each strategic area was important to the community and youth we serve, associated key initiatives and progress to date. This grounded us in the strategies and updated us on what has been happening. ▪️The teams showcased the highly cross-functional and symbiotic nature of the five key strategies and work to be accomplished. ▪️There was focus on aligning on shared language and vernacular. ▪️The team showcased a creative, data-based and research-informed approach across the strategies and disciplines. ▪️The BBBS team made the session fun, engaging, and energizing. ▪️We brainstormed how the board can better support the strategic plan. A fantastic example of living your strategic plan, learning together, considering all stakeholders, and creating transformative change. I am lucky to be a part of this great mission, team and board. Thank you, Pat Sukhum for your leadership, Jennifer Bartels for your great work and leading Team Yellow, and the entire BBBSTC team and board leadership for curating a powerful day!
Love all of this Maria Hokanson! So appreciative of your service on the board and for your messaging of our ambitious work toward fulfilling our commitments to community feedback! I STILL "struggle to not feel lucky about the buckets of opportunity; it's awesome!" (Emily Carlson and Abdul Dire 🎉)
Such a great organization. And I feel so fortunate to be a Big Sister.
Wonderful! I'm on the St. Anthony Park Community Foundation board, and we just granted the first Michael Brasel grant to Big Brothers Big Sisters!
We all gain from moments like this. Thrilled to partner with the board (and love your reflections on the day and plan), also knowing we at Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities grow sharper when pushed to think bigger, bring clarity, and most importantly, align it to the voices of our community. Maria Hokanson, thank you for making this mission part of your identy. Jennifer Bartels, thank you for bringing the plan to life in tangible and supercharged ways!
