In 2014, an average of 1.2 million students dropped out of high school, leading in part to the enactment of the Every Student Succeeds Act in 2015. This new legislation emphasized tiered support for students, recognizing the inadequacy of a one-size-fits-all approach in education. Multi-tiered systems of Support (MTSS) have since emerged as an effective way to ensure equitable access to resources and support for all students, improving education outcomes and fostering a positive school climate. If you're a school leader looking to implement or improve tier support frameworks, read more about MTSS and learn about some of our best practice recommendations now!

This is spot on. For years, I've had students and clients develop a personal vision statement in which they describe what they aspire to see, hear, and feel in their learning environments. Then, we look at the steps necessary to get there. This semester, I'm asking for more of an annotated vision board. I have found that doing so allows the creator to get much more concrete. What might it look like, sound like, or feel like when students love learning, for example? How, exactly, might teachers work collaboratively to develop or enhance instructional strategies? What, then, does the leader need to do to allow those things to flourish? One of the obstacles, I've found, is how limited our visions can be--especially if we have not had or taken the opportunity to visit school models that are different from the ones we've known. We are confined by our knowledge and experience. If we don't expand those, our vision is doomed to be small.
We need a North Star for district improvement plans. Are big-picture vision statements in strategic plans useful? They could be if they served as a North Star, year after year, to direct actionable plans. Vision statements usually don’t do that. They name idealistic and admirable long-term goals, but they are too abstract. “Students Loving Learning,” “Developing 21st Century Skills,” “Capable, Responsible Citizens.” We need a vision statement that can guide the creation of an animated, goal-directed school district with the capacity to accomplish any goal it sets. https://lnkd.in/e9Z8Z856
