Custom picture framing is often perceived as an expensive service, leaving many wondering why it comes with a high price tag. In this article, we will delve into the factors that contribute to the seemingly high cost of custom picture framing, shedding light on the intricacies that are often overlooked. ☀️ The materials used in custom picture framing play a significant role in the overall cost. Opting for high-quality, archival materials ensures the preservation and protection of the artwork or photograph being framed. These materials are designed to prevent damage from factors such as UV light, moisture, and physical wear, ultimately contributing to the longevity of the framed piece. While the initial cost may be higher, the long-term value and protection provided by these materials justify the expense.

Are you a graphic recorder looking for the perfect surface? Many of us love foam board's smooth surface that allows for vibrant colour blending. But paper is eco-friendly and often easier for clients to store and transport (but it’s hard to find glossy paper similar to foam board’s surface). We have a solution! By applying a thin coat of acrylic paint to paper and letting it dry, we've replicated foam board's glossy surface. Bonus: you can change the paint colour to have a wide variety of glossy paper options! 🎨 Tips on this process: 🌟 Ensure you apply a thin layer of paint, not thick! 🌟 Make sure you tape your paper securely to the wall (along top and bottom edges) 🌟 The paper will look warped as you paint (and might even wrinkle), however these will smooth out during the drying process, and especially after you've rolled it up. 🌟 We prep our paper in batches so we have a stock ready to go. #GraphicRecording #LiveIllustration #scribing #visualnotes #GraphicFacilitation

No wall is perfectly straight. In addition to out of square walls, you can sometimes find a butt joint or column that creates a non-straight profile at the tile edge. There are a couple ways to approach this situation using the RevealCut tool. First, you can average out your size measurements. Measure right side of the grid and the left side about 4 inches in. Then measure at the bump. Average the three measurements to one measurement and cut to that size. In most cases, that adjustment is sufficient to accommodate the non-conforming feature of the wall while still giving you a professional-looking perimeter edge. This works great for minor deformities of the wall. If you have something a bit bigger (say, a column bumping out), then it’s best to address that using your grid installation. We would typically install the wall angle flush to the wall from both the right and left sides, ending at either side of the bump out. Then, we cut a section of wall angle to cover the bump with the back notched out to fit the bump and long enough to overlap on the right and left sides. A rivet to hold on both sides in place will put your grid back into square and make the cut easy.”

Have you had to work with curved materials? It’s not the easiest thing to work with Now consider working with curved custom materials for example, guttering Three things that I have learnt over the years that have helped to get it right. Whether it’s guttering badges, aprons, or other types of flashings. 1. Firstly, you need to make a template. Expect that nothing is perfect, all the cat drawings in the world can tell you the radius you need to make your material at this is generally not ever accurate. 2. Engage with a fabricator that is expert in this field, and have a meeting with them and the template. Show them photos of what it is that you are fixing your guttering or flashings too. 3. Try to make the segments in shorter sections rather than long sections. Because if it is out by just a little bit over a long flashing, this is harder to make fit on site. Do you have any other tips that could help people out there whether it’s to do with this curved custom scenario or any other scenarios. I have a mission, it’s to help people construct their own art.

“Camouflage… is a matter of life and death – of victory or defeat” – Sir Roland Penrose, The Home Guard Manual of Camouflage, 1940. This is why we call PenCott® – Mission Critical Camouflage™. But what is so good about the PenCott family of patterns? 1. They provide better concealment at all typical engagement distances. 2. They particularly provide better concealment at much closer distances. 3. They provide better concealment in different environments. 4. Their complex, organic-looking shapes confuse visual processing. How do they do this? 1. They feature a 3-in-1 / 360° pattern geometry with arge, medium and small fractal shapes which makes the patterns effective at close, mid, and long range – and, because of non-linear orientation, the patterns are fully effective whether the wearer is standing, kneeling or prone. 2. They use a combination of Depth + Blending + Disruption features - combining multi-sized shapes, high-difference boundary layers and a hypoacuitively dithered micro-pattern that creates the illusion of depth, whilst also disrupting the shape of the wearer and blending into the environment. 3. Unlike standard pixelated digital patterns, PenCott patterns feature a complex organic-looking texture geometry combined with environmentally matched colors to deliver superior concealment across a wide range of terrain. See what we mean?
