Our award-winning maternal health team is expanding. We are proud to announce the launch of a new midwifery program to serve patients seeking care during pregnancy as well as ongoing gynecologic care through every stage of life. This month, MetroHealth’s team of Certified Nurse Midwives will begin seeing patients in outpatient appointments for pre-natal checkups and women’s wellness exams at Cleveland Heights Medical Center and Brooklyn Health Center. They will also provide inpatient care and attend births at MetroHealth’s new state-of-the-art Birthing Center on its Main Campus in Cleveland. “Research has shown that including midwives as collaborators in maternity care improves overall outcomes for mothers and their infants,” MetroHealth President & CEO Dr. Airica Steed,Ed.D, MBA, RN, CSSMBB,FACHE,IASSC said. “In national surveys, Black women are among those who express the most interest in delivering their babies with the help of midwives, yet they are the least represented among midwifery patients. Thousands of athletes from around the world arrived in Cleveland for the 2024 Pan-American Masters Games, and our caregivers are on the front lines (and sidelines) ensuring the competitors stay healthy. The MetroHealth Events Medicine and Sports Medicine teams collaborated with Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals to provide medical coverage for the event. Representing 70 nationalities, Masters athletes are designated as 30 years or older, with some competitors being over 100 years of age. The Events Medicine team is no stranger to providing care for major events. In addition to several smaller community events, the team provided care at Cuyahoga Valley National Park's total solar eclipse celebration and the Cleveland Juneteenth Freedom Fest. The team will also be at the upcoming Cleveland National Air Show starting August 31. We were thrilled to celebrate the recent opening of a new Physical Rehabilitation Clinic at our Broadway Health Center. The clinic represents an important milestone in expanding access to Musculoskeletal Physical Therapy services to the Broadway community and beyond. "MetroHealth’s Rehabilitation Institute is nationally regarded as among the best of the best at helping patients recover from strokes, brain injuries and spinal cord injuries," said Olusegun Ishmael, MD, MBA, System Chief Operating Officer. "Expanding physical therapy outpatient services "is a decision rooted in our commitment to providing the best possible Patient Experience, in this case by improving access and bringing critical services closer to where people live."
