The work of the Access to Medicine Foundation & Chatham House are well aligned. Robert Yates discusses this in the video below including how we work together to improve the pharma industry's actions in pursuit of our shared goal of achieving universal health coverage and #HealthForAll.
Watch the latest #interview in our #impact series 🎙 Robert Yates, Executive Director of the Centre for Universal Health at Chatham House, talks about how he uses the Foundation's research and insights. "The information that the #AccesstoMedicine Foundation provides, as much as to put pressure on pharmaceutical companies to prioritise access, is vitally important. This technical advice, if presented in a political way, is a very smart and useful tool." Yates also sheds light on how the Foundation and Chatham House have been collaborating to advance #EquitableAccess to medicine, and reflects on how the Foundation is making a difference in the lives of patients in low- and middle-income countries #LMICs. 📽 youtu.be/3L4NfaQLMwo Learn about the impact of our work so far 👉 https://lnkd.in/ehTb8Qgz #AccesstoHealthcare #GlobalHealth #UHC #CreatingImpact #changemaking

Making the connection between health policy, reimbursement and access with actionable insights | Consultant | Medicare, Medicaid, Inflation Reduction Act Expert
As you watch (if you watch), remember that pharmaceutical price isn't one set concept. There are list prices, net prices, copayments/coinsurance, etc. Should healthcare prices be lower for Americans? Yes. But affordability is a not just a focus on the list price of a drug. If we want to have a serious conversation about lowering all of these prices, great - I'm here for it. But political talking points about how we need to pay what other countries do and go after big bad Pharma (while still asking for innovation), meh. Digging in is hard. We need to talk about the levers of Medicaid rebates and 340B and PBMs and copay accumulators. We've built a monster of a healthcare system and reworking it is hard (maybe impossible?) but we might be able to do hard things.

Earlier in the week I posted about Health vs. Wellness as it relates to healthcare and pharmacy costs. The difference essentially being Disease vs. Lifestyle. Unfortunately, as a society we are becoming less and less healthy while at the same time the healthcare system becoming more and more consolidated. Those two factors don't create a great environment for healthcare costs, while prices are becoming less transparent and more confusing for the patient. Below is recent data on the top 20 high-cost claims. This really brings into focus why employer health plans need to account for Health vs. Wellness in order to mitigate costs and risks, while not sacrificing quality of care. If you can impact these claims in a positive way, that is path toward saving money.
