Where have all the #dairy replacement heifers gone? The "ocean liner" that is "US(S) Dairy Replacements" has been changing course for years. Multiple course corrections have caused inventories of dairy heifers (500-pounds and larger) to fall by 709,100 head in the past six years. The course corrections on "Dairy’s High Seas" have included: · Higher costs to raise heifers · Higher inventories due to sexed dairy bull semen · Replacement values that didn’t cover raising costs · A pivot to beef semen on dairy animals to realize more revenue As a result, there's 3 to 3.25 million head of beef-on-dairy cross animals now in the countryside. All this has caused the 20-year low in dairy replacements. What does this mean for #milkproduction? Read the full story at:

The tides are shifting in domestic bovine semen sales in the US. In 2021, conventional dairy semen stood tall as the go-to choice for farmers. But fast forward to 2023, and the landscape looks remarkably different. Dairy sexed semen surged ahead and has taken the lead in sales. Meanwhile, Beef on Dairy semen sales continues to grow with the high price paid for beef x dairy crossbred calves. More details on that ‘trend’ next week. What's driving this change? Market developments in combination with the unwavering spirit of US dairy farmers. These forward-thinking farmers know that adapting to market trends is key to success. By embracing new techniques and technologies, they're maximizing their herd's (genetic) potential and stay ahead of the curve. As the industry evolves, so do the strategies for success. #DairyIndustry #Innovation #Agribusiness #SemenSales #BeefOnDairy #DairySexedSemen #ChangeIsGood #NAAB

🐔Chicken manure Chicken manure is the source of nitrogen for mushrooms. In the past, urea, ammonium sulfate, and other protein-rich materials (e.g., barley spawn, cottonseed meal, etc.) have been used. The quality of manure of broiler chickens is relatively balanced (chicken farms are emptied every 6️⃣-7️⃣ weeks). Sawdust or wood chips are used for bedding, so chicken manure is relatively dry and can be more evenly distributed than e.g. manure for laying hens. Chicken manure has a nitrogen content of 3,5-4% on a dry matter basis, a water content of 30-40% and an ash content of 12-14%. #biofungi #mushrooms #compost #cultivation #agriculture #circulareconomy

Take a closer look at Monarch's MK-V Dairy tractor in slow motion! Dairy farmers prioritize providing their cows with a nourishing blend of feed to ensure their well-being and contentment. 🐮 Cows consume their food from the ground, they inadvertently push it down and outward, making it challenging to access through the bars. To address this, the feed needs to be pushed up, or "bladed," closer to the cows so they can easily reach it. 🌾 This task is typically repeated by dairy farmers 12-18 times per day, highlighting its significance. For efficiently pushing feed, a tractor remains the preferred tool of choice. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4aQT5kq
