Wake up the fixture! Sign posting your product through the choice of structure is a great way to showcase your point of difference and cue authenticity. Check out this great little example from those global purveyors brown powder, Starbucks. The product is a ready to drink milkshake which cleverly utilises their take-home coffee cup structure in order to force differentiation from the white PET bottles all to common in this sector. The pack features a transparent lid and hole to pop a straw through, to add that additional bit of ceremony. Overpacking? We've all felt that sense of peace when we see a safety seal on a beverage we just bought. It signals that the product is untouched and intact, giving us a feeling of being the first to enjoy it since it left the production line, even though the same applies to packages without such a seal. However, a couple of years ago, San Pellegrino decided to remove this feature, along with other design elements that effectively captured attention. In this post, we focus on the impact of removing the overlid. It's been two weeks since we unveiled our new name and logo to the world! Let's dive into what makes our new logo so impactful. The round shape resembles a plate, the universal symbol of food and dining. It's where our members' products shine and where people come together to enjoy them. Notice the varying thickness of the plate border? It's the path of progress—our pledge to move forward, evolve, embrace change, and continuously improve. The dark blue in our name anchors us in tradition, reflecting the depth of our history and the strength of our commitment to the industry. Contrasting this, the lighter blue of the circle breathes freshness into our identity, invoking a sense of modernity and the dynamic energy we bring to the proverbial table. The open space in the circle symbolizes our commitment to transparency and inclusiveness in all we do, from food safety to industry innovation. This morning, I decided to start my day with a chai latte with my Keurig and I want to take you through the process. The Keurig coffee machine isn’t specifically designed for the blind or visually impaired but the seamless design and tactile buttons make it easy to use. Let this be a reminder of how essential accessibility is in product design. Call to Action: I encourage other companies to consider accessibility in their product designs. Simple features like tactile buttons, audio feedback, and intuitive layouts can make a significant difference. There’s still much work to be done to make all appliances and devices more user-friendly for everyone, including those with visual impairments.
