It’s Women’s History Month. WHM is a fantastic time for brands to create values-driven campaigns and demonstrate their morals, ethics and activism around gender equity. However, it’s also a time for many brands to “jump on the bandwagon” and not have anything meaningful to say. Some struggle to strike the right balance between being overly performative and having deep, considered reflection towards gender equality and celebrating women. Some brands have got it terribly wrong *cough* Burger King *cough* - but other brands have hit the nail on the head. And considering it’s a month of celebration, we thought we’d share one of our favourite Women’s History Month campaigns of 2023 so far! Ford’s ‘Men’s only addition’ advert flips the script on gender equality, showing a ‘men’s only car’ which has no GPS, no heater, no windshield wipers or rearview mirror - highlighting all the essential features women have created in the automotive industry during the past 100 years and ends by saluting ‘the visionary automotive work by women past, present and future. There are so many awareness days nowadays that it’s vital brands carefully select the causes they want to make noise about and do so in a considered, meaningful way - just like this. https://lnkd.in/ew9Q6-rE #marketresearch #adcampaign #advertisement #marketresearch #marketresearchagency #consumerresearch #behaviouraleconomics #womenshistorymonth #womenshistorymonth2023

It's #IWD2024, and I couldn't let the day go without a quick post about #InvestInWomen - the UN theme for this year. This year I challenge you (and me) to invest time in supporting the women around you. I challenge businesses, large and small, to invest financially in their female staff (the gender pay gap is, I believe, still live and kicking). I challenge you (and me) to invest time in reading relevant books to support us as we help ourselves and others - if you've not read it yet, please read The Authority Gap by Mary Ann Sieghart, the chapters at the end give tips we can all learn from. I'm going to be reading Invisible Women by Caroline Criado Perez, which people have recommended. I'll also be re-reading How Women Rise by Sally Helgesen. I'll leave you with one of my favourite #IWD campaigns, it makes me smile each time I watch it - the Ford Men's Only Edition... enjoy (although ignore some of the comments, they made me more than a little cross at times)... more info in the comments, including a list of women who developed groundbreaking tech in the automotive industry. https://lnkd.in/eQSCWNgM

Cloud Operations Manager at Trimble, technology leader specializing in cloud transformation, and DEI leader/learner with a focus on women in tech
If you want to find out how we can empower more women leaders, I just want to ask you have you seen Disney Pixar Cars 3? Let me explain: ⚡️The main protagonist, Lightning, is seeing signs of his legacy fading as younger race cars take to the track. Next generation racers are becoming faster and improved. 🚗 He has a large crash, and his sponsor is bought by another company. After he recovers, he starts training under a new trainer, Cruz Ramirez. 🏋🏻Lightning sees Cruz for the first time on the racing simulator, and says “Who’s that racer?” The obtuse billionaire owner of Rusteze, Sterling, says “Oh she’s not a racer, that’s just our Trainer, Cruz.” 😤Cruz says to Lightning at one point, I’m not cut out to be a racer. She explains how the one time she tried to race, she felt lost and intimidated by the other cars. 🚙At the end of the movie, Lightning is racing his final race, and realizes he can’t beat the new generation of racers. He remembers everything Cruz has been saying, and jumps off the track and calls her to don the 95 logo. 🏁As a result, both cars win, Lightning gracefully retires, and Cruz becomes the racer she always dreamed of being. So what are the takeaways? 1️⃣Lightning decentered himself in order to connect with Cruz. 2️⃣He wasn’t threatened by Cruz. 3️⃣He empowered her to take to the track. De-centering yourself as a person with privilege is one of the first steps to DEI work. It’s not always about the success of the individual, it’s about how can we make positive changes to the spaces we’re in, so that we ALL succeed. ✨ And that’s my TED talk for today. #fridayfeeling #diversityandinclusion #diversityequityinclusion #womenintech #womenleadership

In the late 90s, during my 9th-grade days, my school commute was a 2 km walk from home to the highway, where we'd catch our bus. One morning, around 8 am, a remarkable sight caught our attention—a woman cruising by on her Royal Enfield motorcycle. Clad in a light blue jeans, a white t-shirt, and a half-mask helmet, she exuded confidence and fearlessness. In an era when female riders were a rare sight, her presence was groundbreaking. Her daily ride past us left a lasting impression, challenging stereotypes and defying cultural norms. She embodied courage, independence, and a pioneering spirit, inspiring us all with her daring choice to ride. Even today, her image remains vivid in my memory, a reminder that breaking barriers and pursuing your passion is always worth it, regardless of the challenges or societal expectations. Her story is a testament to the power of determination and the impact one person's actions can have on others. It's a reminder of the progress we've made and the journey ahead—to create a world where seeing a woman riding a motorcycle is not a rare sight but a normal occurrence. This change isn't just about building skills; it's about shifting mindsets and breaking down barriers. It's about creating a society where women are empowered to pursue their passions, regardless of societal expectations. To all the women riders out there, your courage and determination are changing the world, one ride at a time. Your presence on the road is a symbol of progress and a testament to the power of breaking stereotypes. Here's to seeing more women on motorcycles, rewriting the norms, and inspiring future generations. #motorcycles #motomentor #leaders #culturenorms #ridetolive #breakingbarriers

BMW has changed its logos to pride flags... 🏳️🌈 But ONLY on its Western accounts. Meanwhile, its accounts in the Middle East remain the same. The Daily Wire writes: "Critics quickly pointed out that if BMW as a corporation was serious about solidarity rather than just capitalizing on the market share driven by virtue signalling, the pride-themed logo would be on full display, especially in places where it was not culturally accepted." Is this corporate virtue signalling or is BMW playing its cards correctly here? _____ ♻️ Repost so we can start a dialogue. 👉 Follow me for tips on building your brand. 📈 Click the link in my bio to learn more.

'Be One of Many' was Mercedes-Benz USA's Int'l Women's Day 2023 campaign. I wanted to dig this one up - As an Economic Developer for my municipality + a Professor for International Business students, I can attest that promoting women is an investment in the future. Female role models and male champions are needed to get more women and girls interested in traditionally male-dominated professions. Let's continue being agents of change, striving for bigger and better. This video is a powerful example of what great #advertising can do to shift perceptions and change societal norms. We don’t want to be 'the only woman'. We want to be 'one of many'! #BeOneOfMany City of Kitchener #economicdevelopment #nextgenleaders #compellingadvertising

🎉 We have successfully concluded our first collaboration with Volkswagen Group Future Center Europe GmbH! Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) are values at the core of this project - and many others we worked and still work on. Beginning with the exploration of disability-related issues and the fundamental principles of DEI, Shifton developed a comprehensive strategy aimed at fostering an inclusive culture in the future of mobility. To do this, we approached the concept of mobility from various perspectives, endeavoring to view diversity and inclusion not as constraints, but as opportunities for innovation. We also moved beyond a product-centric view, delving into mobility design in a holistic and transdisciplinary way. This was made possible by the participation of individuals from different design departments, ranging from product to user experience design. The workshop we held in December emphasized the importance of cultivating communities of practices that start from individual values and relationships between people to drive cultural change within the company. Thanks to Daniela Vaccaro, Guglielmo Apolloni and Laure Tibayrenc for their excellent work! #shifton #helloshifton #mobility #inclusion #inclusivedesign #designthinking
