Says she wrote the GDPR to protect us from Big Tech & Government - not the village butcher & football team. But unfortunately "national regulators looked more for the nitty gritty than for the real problems with the big platforms".

I appreciate the awareness of failure, not that the blame is put on others. Surely civil servants at that level are familiar with the challenges of policy IMPLEMENTATION? If not, read this book, and make sure we do better. We can't afford to get AI protections and guarantees wrong https://a.co/d/0aJ1FLAg

Can one of my European or UK friends please explain to me the thinking behind the claim that GDPR is a good law that governments in power failed to properly enforce? It makes no sense to me. In the US, laws are written with the expectation power will change hands. So vaguely-written laws that cause the opposite of their stated intent are called "bad laws," and we activate for their repeal. We never have this impotent, multi-year refrain of "It wasn't the lawmakers' fault!" Strikes me as failure to cope with the effects of your own actions.
Repeal GDPR. Stop making the world's worst privacy violators more powerful.
