Mental Health Awareness Month is coming to a close, but the conversation about mental health never ends! This month at MHALA, we've been blown away by the incredible creativity of our community. Our members and advocates shared how art forms like cooking, sculpting, painting, and photography have all been outlets for them to express themselves and nurture their mental well-being. Together, we've spread awareness about the importance of mental health and the power of artistic expression. Remember, taking care of your mental health is crucial, not just in May, but every single day. The Social Pivot Exhibit in Long Beach is almost here! Rhonda Love and MHALA partnered on this creative journey that explores the challenges of COVID-19, climate change, civic engagement, and social justice. Through interactive experiences, you become the hero, making a difference! Join us during our exhibit hours for a self-guided tours and an art bar, Thurs-Sun, 11 AM - 6 PM starting June 16.  🎨 Creative Expression: A Path to Mental Well-Being and Resilience 🎨 Creative expression can enhance mental well-being and strengthen resilience. Whether through painting, cooking, sculpture, or dance, art can boost self-esteem, reduce symptoms of stress and anxiety, and increase mindfulness and connection to the world around you. For many of MHALA’s members, an artistic outlet allows them to express themselves in ways words cannot. A recent survey from the American Psychiatric Association found that people who rate their mental health as positive often engage in creative activities more regularly. Activities like playing an instrument, gardening, knitting, and visiting art museums can help improve your mental health. This Mental Health Awareness Month, MHALA highlights the connection between mental health and creative expression.
