Hi Dr. Eman Ragab, Ph.D Thanks for this post. The recent seizure of $11 million worth of illegal drugs by the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) in the international waters off the Gulf of Oman is a significant achievement in the ongoing fight against illicit substance trafficking. This operation, carried out by the #CTF 150 underlines the indispensable role of the CMF in maintaining regional stability and security. The interception marks yet another accomplishment, adding to the impressive tally of over $1 billion in illegal drug seizures since 2021. These efforts not only disrupt the operations of drug traffickers but also strike at the financial heart of various criminal networks across the Middle East. The commitment and vigilance of the CMF provide a much-needed buffer against the illicit drug trade, contributing to a safer and more secure global maritime landscape.

Attacking seafarers is a coward act.
“MSC confirmed that on 26 December the 8,200 TEU container ship MSC UNITED VIII was attacked while transiting the Red Sea. "The vessel informed a nearby coalition task force warship of the attack and as instructed engaged in evasive maneuvers," reported the Swiss/Italian ocean carrier.” #msc #redsea #suezcanal

A mass evacuation of aircraft is taking place at the moment from Tripoli, following violent clashes involving gunfire taking place at HLLM/Tripoli Mitiga airport. This is the most significant aviation security event in Libya in the last few years, and highlights the ongoing risk to operations here. With the airspace closure in Niger last week, routes over Africa have become very limited, and the Tripoli FIR may seem a tempting alternative - but operators considering a Libya overflight should consider routings very carefully. https://lnkd.in/ei7YdqYG #HLLM #Mitiga

Saudi Arabia's Leadership in IMO's NCSR Sub-Committee Meeting Shipping Arabia, June 18, 2024 — Saudi Arabia has significantly contributed to the 11th meeting of the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) Sub-Committee on Navigation, Communications, and Search and Rescue (NCSR), held in London from June 4th to 13th. This participation underlines the kingdom's dedication to advancing global maritime safety and communication standards. The NCSR Sub-Committee delves into essential aspects of maritime navigation and safety, including the assessment and approval of ship routing measures and reporting systems. It also encompasses the setting of standards for navigational and communication devices like the Long Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT) system and the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS). Significant agreements were reached during the meeting, notably draft amendments to SOLAS V/23 aimed at enhancing the safety of pilot transfer arrangements. This move is expected to mitigate risks and boost operational efficacy. Additionally, amendments were introduced to include the VHF Data Exchange System (VDES) as a voluntary carriage requirement, which promises to enhance maritime communication. An MSC resolution was also approved to establish performance standards for the Navigational Data (NAVDAT) system, crucial for the accurate dissemination of navigational data essential for safe vessel navigation. Updates were made to the MSC Circular concerning the validity of radiocommunications equipment, ensuring compliance with the most current standards. The Saudi delegation, including members from the Transport General Authority (TGA), the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), and the Border Guard, was pivotal in these discussions, showcasing Saudi Arabia's commitment to maritime safety and operational improvements on a global stage. Saudi Arabia's active involvement in the NCSR discussions highlights its strategic efforts to enhance maritime operations and safety standards worldwide, positioning the kingdom as a leader in the maritime sector. This engagement is set to influence global maritime operations positively, promoting safety, efficiency, and technological innovation in shipping and navigation as the industry progresses. The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA, Agensi Penguatkuasaan Maritim Malaysia) celebrated a significant milestone in its operational capabilities as it officially welcomed the arrival of its locally constructed vessel, OPV1, during a ceremony held at the TH Heavy Engineering (THHE) Fabricators jetty in Pulau Indah, Port Klang. The ceremony, presided over by Home Ministry Secretary-general Datuk Ruji Ubi on December 2, marked a significant milestone for maritime security in the region. The delivery of OPV1, also known as KM Tun Fatimah, was notable for being 16 months behind schedule, attributed to contractual obligations that mandated its delivery by August 2022. All ships will be named after female warriors of Malaysia. The RM738.9 million contract, awarded in January 2017 to THHE-Destini, aimed at the construction of three Offshore Patrol Vessels. However, complications arose within the contracting entity, leading to changes in ownership and subsequent delays. Initially a joint venture, Destini sold its stake in THHE, which subsequently underwent a change in ownership. Following the 2018 general election, the PH government orchestrated the takeover of THHE by Urus Harta Jemaah Sdn Bhd, a move under the Minister of Finance (Incorporated). Despite this transition in ownership, Urus Harta Jemaah remained at the helm of THHE, overseeing the offshore patrol vessel’s construction and delivery. This period of transition coincided with extensions in delivery deadlines, pushing OPV1’s completion to August 2022 and subsequently delaying OPV2 and OPV3 by an additional year. With the arrival of OPV1, the MMEA stands to bolster its operational capabilities, enhancing its ability to safeguard Malaysian waters and enforce maritime regulations effectively. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/gRJ5h44Z
