Prof avered #AI will have beneficial use-cases in solving world problems and specifically relating to health management over a wide area, in forecasting potential pandemics and their projected impacts since information is gleaned from a diversity of (often unlikely and unconventional) sources in real-time. A full house-party on author-teacher Katrina Esau's 91st birthday! This week's #InternationalMotherLanguageDay was extra special as I was happy to assist in giving the well deserved recognition for her service as the oldest and last known speakers of N|uu. An ancient language born of the harsh sands of the Northern Cape now facing extinction, it clings to survival by the efforts of people like #OumaKatrina. Tough green shoots in a hostile environment are to be celebrated as we keep languages alive for future generations through #childrensbooks and #childrensliterature in this UNESCO mandated #DecadeofIndigenousLanguages United Nations #Indigenouslanguagesdecade Soon to be the subject of the film "Language of My Soul" produced in assistance with National Arts Council of South Africa (NAC) Puku Children's Literature Foundation Schweizerische Eidgenossenschaft supported by University of South Africa/Universiteit van Suid-Afrika and Ilifa Labantwana Ouma's book "!Qhoi n|a Tjhoi" as told to Claudia Snyman is available from Puku. A working title written by Lorato Trok on koko Katrina Esau's life (starting with being oppressively called 'Geelmeid' by an Apartheid era farmer) from Jacana Media is available later this year.
