So Luke Littler lost the World Darts Championship. Many say he 'failed'. Yet only one person technically 'won' and that was Luke Humphries (Congratulations Luke, and very well played). Strangely, we are not talking about every other competitor that also 'failed'? What has Littler actually 'won'? Well aside from a multitude of youth championships previously, he's won himself a contract to play in the Premier League of Darts, escalated his ranking, and brought the game of darts to a whole new audience who will be investing in equipment (Oh how I'd love to be a dart or dartboard manufacturer right now)! On a very personal level, he has gained something that cannot be purchased in a shop, or even given to him; EXPERIENCE. Throughout the rounds, you could see him gaining more and more confidence, standing on the stage, being part of an intense national media circus but every time he threw more darts, he's gaining just a little more. Would he do anything differently? I'm sure he's questioned himself, but he's made memories, gained experience and without a doubt will be a force to be reckoned with over the next few years. Now relate that to your life. How many times do you not do something, put something off or simply just wait until everything is perfect? Get out there, take action, reflect, 'rinse and repeat' and gain a huge amount of experience. Whatever it is that you do, that will teach you something... it's up to you how you use that new learning. #training #darts #winner #experience #life #littler

Ever played in a captain's choice/scramble golf event? I get to do this once or twice a year, and when I do, for the last 20 years at least, it's been 100% registration as a team - with 3 other pre-selected people who build a foursome for this future event. Until Monday. I played as a "single". I know - totally throwing: 1) caution to the wind 2) out all perceived competitive advantage "my team" has 3) comfort of knowing who you're riding with 4) out any ego that I deserve to be on some elite squad of scratch golfers I'm tempted to only register as a single when possible from here on out. Here's why: 1) You'd be amazed how quickly everyone just owns their play. 2) We all start at zero with zero pressure to prove anything, which means we all just play each hole, each stroke with everything to prove, but also nothing at all. 3) I met an orthopedic surgeon 4) I met a GM for a local hotel 5) I met a local brick and mortar travel agent 6) For 4 hours, our team was doing what these events are intended to do - create networking opportunities, create new connections, build a community. But, this is golf. Even if you suck. And, if you haven't registered as a single, or if you always play with "your group", then consider this a challenge to go out on your own, to play with a new group every once in a while. Mix it up. We're so different and yet so similar. I know this - there's miles and miles of fairway ahead of us, but we never know how many holes we might have left. In this interesting article by World of Show Jumping on USA Show Jumping Athlete Cathleen Driscoll, she shared her perspective on team ownership and athlete backing in the US: "I find the owners in the US prefer to back men. I don't know why but I think it's much easier for male riders to get owners and if you have a great team owner behind you and you can have a strong string of horses, you can move up on the ranking list, get into bigger shows, and get better opportunities. I think we are lacking good owners especially for female riders. I think it's harder for us to get owners and it really shouldn't be. I think we are missing out on a lot of talent that just needs opportunity." Despite show jumping sport having exceptional growth similar to the growth now seen in Formula One in regard to investment in elite level competitions, tours, venues, major sponsorship, broadcasting, endorsements, and media deals, Driscoll's statements still ring true. There is a definite lack of diversity among the athletes at the highest level of show jumping sport and a lack of investment into women riders and riders of color resulting in much talent going undiscovered. Sometimes all it takes is one opportunity to help change this continued trajectory. https://lnkd.in/gXKe_iTp
