LEAVING THE VILLAGES WITHOUT A TRAIN IS LIKE LEAVING THEM WITHOUT DOCTORS
https://lnkd.in/eHcfySwp
The last 10 years, particularly the period between 2020 and 2024, have seen several setbacks for Spanish railroads. Conventional railroads were the hardest hit...
In this 5-year interval, there was the suppression of night connections or the Aranjuez (Madrid)-Cuenca-Utiel (Valencia) route. The green routes mania caused the dismantling of the Portaventura-Vandellòs or Cieza-Calasparra sections and there was a negative response regarding the recovery of the Córdoba-Bobadilla line.
All these practices diminished the possibility of opting for the railroad in the Spanish territory. This while the world yearns for a new model of (multi)mobility. This while the world is facing climate change. This while the world is reinventing itself faster and faster in the technical field. Let us hope that Spain does not miss the train of the future with the current policy.
Let us be aware that railway operation is costly. However, it has an immense social and touristic value. Although this value is usually invisible, it carries a vital surplus value....
"LEAVING VILLAGES WITHOUT, IS LIKE LEAVING THEM WITHOUT DOCTORS" How are the inhabitants of Binéfar going to get to the doctor or dentist if more trains will be lost?
However, in reaction to the disastrous actions more railway collectives were suggested. These citizens continue to fight for their trains.
A brief review of some collectives:
*MONTENEGROS, NO PIERDAS TU TREN:
This group is demanding more and better services on the conventional line between Zaragoza and Lleida via Grañen, and on July 7, after 40 in-person meetings, said goodbye. They will continue their fight in the offices.
* TREN RURA MADRID-CUENCA-VALENCIA:
Since July 2022, this route has been suspended. Making Cuenca one of the provincial capitals without train. Every Tuesday, in front of the station of Cuenca, a few brave people protest for it return. It should be noted that an extension to Las Cuevas and Camporrobles from Utiel will be possible thanks to small adaptations.
* PLATAFORMA TREN EXTREMADURA:
The territory of Extremadura still has infrastructures of a bygone era. Due to this deplorable condition of the tracks, fewer trains are destined to Extremadura. The trains that do run are usually of inferior quality. In the town of Cabeza del Buey (La Serena - Badajoz) a donkey beats the train.
It can be emphasized that the 2 lines Ciudad Real-Badajoz and Cáceres-Valencia de Alcántara would be ideal candidates for an overnight connection between Madrid/Valencia-Lisbon. An interesting alternative for a short-haul flight.
From ANDANOS we highly value their efforts without compromise!!! We promote a collaboration with these groups. They know what lives in the streets of the village. For this reason, their participation will be very valuable in the elaboration of the time tables.
🏙 Albania’s building boom shows little sign of slowing just yet
🇦🇱 Migration to urban centres, remittances from the Albanian #diaspora, and post-earthquake reconstruction have long made construction one of the largest sectors of #Albania’s economy.
🏝 As #tourism soars to unprecedented levels—the country expects to host at least 10 million people this year—the boom is set to continue. ⛰
What does it mean for the #Balkan country?

The “Land of the Thunder Dragon (Druk Yul)” and the last remaining Himalayan kingdom, Bhutan has announced the plans to build a massive international city, known as “Gelephu Project” in an area of over 1,000 sq. kilometers on its border with Assam, the largest state in the north – eastern part of India.
⚜ Key Highlights of the Gelephu Smart City Project
▶ It will act as an economic corridor connecting South Asia with Southeast Asia via the north – eastern states of India.
✅ The project will strive to adhere to global environmental and sustainability, and aim to attract “quality investment” from “specially screened” international companies.
✔ It is expected to include “zero emission” industries, a “mindfulness city” that plays to Bhutan’s strength in tourism and wellness, as well as infrastructure companies.
🥕 It will include a “Special Administrative Region” that would be run under different laws to facilitate more international investment.
🏑 It is expected to be a “point of inflection " and "transformation" for Bhutan and South Asia.
🕒 In addition, the Government of India also agreed to construct the first India –Bhutan railway line to Gelephu (in Sarpang District, southern Bhutan) which will also connect with roadways and border trading points in Assam and West Bengal (Indian states), eventually providing the Bhutanese access to Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, and Singapore via under – construction 1,360 km – long India–Myanmar–Thailand Trilateral Highway (IMT Highway).

"Most of the localisation discussions have also been dominated by international actors with token representations of local actors. Hub Connect was a significant departure from this flawed approach, where local actors dominated the discussions, shared their challenges and planned strategies to overcome them."
#HubConnect brought together our humanitarian hubs from nine countries to exchange learnings and best practices to drive localisation in the sector.

As South Africa braces for more severe weather, it's clear that climate resilience must be a top priority. We need comprehensive strategies to address the root causes of climate change and support affected communities.

Medellín has emerged as a top destination for international tourists, with visitors flocking from all over the world to enjoy the city’s vibrant streets, bustling nightlife and natural beauty.
However, when an American tourist was found earlier this year with two 12 and 13 year old girls in his hotel room in El Poblado, a darker trend within the city’s tourism industry was brought to light. As tourist numbers have rocketed, so have the cases of commercial sexual exploitation of minors. So far this year, eight foreign nationals have been arrested and investigated for offences related to child sexual exploitation.
At Children Change Colombia, we’re working to tackle these issues across the country, so that no child has to suffer the traumas of this terrible crime. Read our recent blog post to find out more about the situation and what we can do to combat it.

Incredible stuff: only 90 minutes to cover the approx. 200 km from Dar es Salaam to Morogoro - using East Africa’s first electric train.
To put this into perspective- it normally takes around five hours to do the same journey by private car.
“The recently-launched standard gauge railway (SGR) services have captured the hearts and minds of Tanzanians, with over 4,000 passengers now being served daily between Dar es Salaam and Morogoro.”
And the real gamechangers are still to come - with the line from Dar es Salaam to #Dodoma expected to open later this month - plus imagine what a difference this infrastructure will make when it is connected directly into the Port and transporting significant amounts of transit cargo.
