One of my favorite interview questions came from Jim Branson, our Chief Operating Officer. He asked, “What is the last fun thing you’ve done with your team?” I love this question because the candidates' answers were insightful and it highlights the importance of fun and connection at WTB. Though it’s been years since I first heard it, I still ask myself this question to ensure I’m the leader I want to be for the HR team and for the Bank. Here’s a picture of us enjoying an Indians baseball game this season—not because we all love baseball, but because we love spending time together and being outside. What is the last fun thing you’ve done with your team?

This picture is a great representation of our team dynamics. We debated who should stand where, what the best angle was, joked that none of us enjoyed taking pictures, and laughed so often through the process that we had to compose ourselves to get this shot—all within about a 5-minute timeframe. All this so we could officially announce that we have an opportunity for an HR Business Partner on our team https://lnkd.in/gkRwHENk

My team knows I am not a fan of Boss's Day - the whole idea of it makes me incredibly uncomfortable. The sweet card and caramel apple (my favorite) made my day though. I am amazed at how intentional and thoughtful they are towards everyone they encounter. They are also hardworking, intelligent, inclusive, accountable, and a host of other words that make me feel so incredibly lucky to partner with them! There is the saying about hiring the best people and then getting out of their way... I'll be over here eating my caramel apple while they continue to rock it!

It is spirit week at my husband's high school and today was role reversal day. I think he nailed the look with his hat over a hoodie, lemonade crocs, and face that says, "why do you always want to take my picture". There is a power dynamic between teachers and students, and opportunities like these help bring levity. It is important to remember that power dynamics also play out in the work place and it is okay for leaders to be silly - even if it means wearing crocs with long socks!
