In France: - Anesthesiologists are trained extensively in three key areas: anesthesia, intensive care, and perioperative medicine. - This comprehensive approach equips French anesthesiologists to play a versatile role in patient care, extending beyond the operating room (OR). - They are actively involved in critical care management and have a substantial role in the entire perioperative process, including preoperative assessments and postoperative care. This is a very comprehensive overview of the current state and where our specialty is going. A 2.6–12% shortage persists due to an annual surgical procedure demand growth of 2–3%. In 2010, the deficit remained at 5% in the south and reached as high as 8% in the western U.S. This resulted in a recommendation to increase the number of training positions in anesthesiology by 3800 to meet demand. The rapid growth in the number of CRNAs has eased some of the unmet demand, and they now exceed the supply of anesthesiologists, growing at a faster annual rate (9.8%). As of July 2021, in many areas of the U.S., the ratio is greater than 2:1 (mean 1.27:1).

Where are we ?? We mean - Anesthesiologists ??? 1) One surgeon was awarded coz he did some high risk surgeries but no one knows who was his anesthetist??? 2) All specialities receives life time achievement or other awards . But what about Anesthetists - who spent their whole life giving anesthesia , getting the least salary ( as per my experience) among his colleagues , taking the same risks like others ???? No-one thinks about this BEHIND THE CURTAIN - DOCTORS. Maximum , they are given some snacks and tea after surgery just to please them. 3) Most of the ANESTHETists are now moving to other specialities like Pain specialists , palliative care physicians etc just to show their importance and many are doing USG guided blocks in OT and other areas( most often they are not well trained ) . So actually ANESTHETITS are disappearing . Most of the Centres need someone who can work in 2-3 places together just to save money but believe me they will lose a good and safe ANESTHETISTS 4) Have knows many Senior Anesthetists ( like me but I am still learner ) like Dr Shiv Singh ( Liverpool Uk ), Dr Hetal (India ) , Dr Anil Sharma (India ) , Dr Monica Gupta( UAE ) , Dr guru( Australia ) and others who are trying to raise the awareness about anesthesia for many years and hope the will be successful one day but till now , the position os Anesthetists is same like before At last , I will just say - ANESTHETISTS are the backbone of any healthcare organizations and they are very important part of revenue ( their revenue is not generating from opd etc ) in long term . Anesthesia reimbursement per billed Relative Value Units (RVU) may not reflect the actual value of the work performed According to this study that looked at 405 clinicians who provided anesthesia for 31,688 encounters https://lnkd.in/gxDur9e3, "In this cross-sectional study of 8 hospitals in 2 states, we found that reimbursement for anesthesiology services overcompensated for procedural complexity and undercompensated for patient complexity. Our results suggest that the current system for anesthesiology reimbursement might be poorly calibrated with clinical workload.
