Stop winging your media interviews. I know you're a seasoned executive. I know you've done countless press briefings. But even the most experienced spokesperson can get tripped up by a tough question or a high-pressure situation. The reason for the problem: Journalists are trained to ask probing questions and elicit newsworthy soundbites. If you're not equally prepared, you risk misspeaking or missing opportunities. But you only need a focused media training session to: -Refine your key messages -Anticipate difficult questions -Practice bridging techniques -Get professional feedback Don't let your hard-earned media opportunity go to waste. Invest in preparation and walk into every interview with confidence and control. #PublicRelations #PRAgency #StrategicCommunications #CrisisCommunications #MediaRelations #SocialMediaManagement #ExecutiveTraining #BrandStrategy #ReputationManagement #ThoughtLeadership

Media training coach. Business owner for 21 years. I teach people The Art of the Great Media Interview -- in-person, virtually and through my new on-demand courses.
The vast majority of journalists are not out to get you. However, a small percentage of journalists are definitely out to get you. Can you, as the spokesperson, tell the difference when you're in the middle of your media interview? Not necessarily. Tip #1: Rely on your communications/media relations people. They have a hard-earned Spider Sense about these interactions and can help you prepare and navigate any media interview. They can smell potential traps, malicious reporters or unethical situations and advise you accordingly. Never speak to the media without them. Tip #2: Put yourself through a great media training session. Learn the tricks of the trade. Understand the difference between a media interview and a conversation. Practice your messaging. Do repetitions of tough interviews, get feedback and make adjustments. Ignore these tips and you're essentially rolling the dice with your media interviews.

We have a Media Interview Planner available for free... because we like you! People have asked us why we don't charge for the planner, and it's pretty simple: This will help you, and it was easy for us to build. We do media relations training, and broader communications training, with local government all the time, and we typically just toss this planner in at the end anyway. This planner will help you prepare for your next interview. It doesn't teach you effective media relations. If Council or Administration need media training, let us know and we'll help you out. But if all you need is a planner, this will do the trick. https://lnkd.in/g7EQRTk4 #localgovernment #mediarelations #localgov
