I'm happy to share that I presented our digital twin method for predictive maintenance at the 2024 REMADE Circular Economy Technology Summit & Conference in Washington, D.C. last week with my advisor Professor Wei Chen, and my collaborators Chase Siuta and Dr. Robert Radulescu. This research contributes to predictive maintenance by focusing on tire health to enhance automotive safety and efficiency. Our approach unfolds in three pivotal steps: Model Training: We begin by managing data complexity through reduction techniques that distill extensive historical and telematics data into a clear depiction of physical tires. This creates a solid foundation for training our transformer-based model offline, enabling it to predict future tire conditions and quantify uncertainties for dependable forecasts. Real-Time Integration: We then integrate real-time data into the digital twin using a hybrid modeling approach, ensuring accuracy throughout the tire’s lifecycle. Decision Algorithm: Finally, we implement a Tire State Decision Algorithm that leverages the model’s predictions to determine optimal times for tire maintenance or replacement. This strategy not only forecasts tire health but continuously refines its accuracy and the timing of maintenance decisions, thereby optimizing operations and extending tire life.
