Pride month is upon us and I would like to take a moment to address my thoughts of celebrating Pride this year. A year of violent conflicts, another year of nationalism on the rise all over the world and yet another year of segregation. For me Pride month matters as it highlights the existence and struggle of the LGBTQIA+ community around the globe. Some of us are privileged, some are not but we exist in all contexts and places. I am one of the privileged ones, I’m a white male in a fairly progressive country. That doesn’t mean that I’m fat and happy. I try to stay aware of my privilege and use my voice for the less privileged. 🌈 In an LGBTQIA+ context: as someone not struggling. 🌍 In a humanitarian context: as a westerner who lives a good life but knows what it’s like not feeling safe in all situations, what it feels like to be questioned and having to defend ones person. To gain the LGBTQIA+ communities trust in conflicts around the world we are often told what happens to people like us in other countries. And while that is horrible we do not want people to be murdered in our name or to protect us. We don’t want people to die for us to be accepted, that would make us terrorists. We just want to be accepted, plain and simple. You don’t need to love us, we don’t need to love you but we need to be able to coexist in a world of mutual respect but not necessarily in agreement. The world is diverse and it needs to be diverse. We are all human faced with the task of trying to save this planet from what we brought onto it. And that requires collaboration, coexistence and respect. An understanding of privilege and what is required from the privileged in order to help less fortunate groups around the world who often find them selves in that position due to our privilege. So to finish this post: My wish for this pride month is for acceptance and respect for everyone. Let's put our disagreements to the side and face the fact that we need to coexist to be able to move forward.

🌈 Celebrating Pride Month! One of my favourite times on LinkedIn 🌈 I love seeing what organisations are doing to recognise and support the LGBTQI+ community, to reflect on the progress we’ve made, and to recognize the work that still needs to be done. Diversity, equity and inclusion are not just buzzwords but essential ingredients for a thriving workplace. If you’re an ally like me and don’t know how to get involved, I would suggest starting with just x3 things: 1. Take the time to learn stuff: Understanding the history and struggles of the LGBTQI+ community is crucial. Learn by googling or inviting your colleagues and friends to share. 2. Support: Encourage open conversations and offer support. Even just say, happy Pride month! 3. Celebrate: Whether its participating in Pride events, wearing a badge or lanyard, showcasing LGBTIQI+ stories or turning up to that morning tea – your visibility and action counts. And do it authentically. I love to see organisations celebrate love, diversity, and the diverse spectrum of human experience and may it continue beyond June always! 🏳️🌈❤️

Celebrating Pride: A Journey of Joy and Resistance In the tapestry of life’s challenges, the very act of existing becomes a powerful form of resistance. It’s a testament to our resilience and an inspiration for change. This Pride Month let’s embrace the concept that radical joy transcends mere emotion. It’s an anthem for the undaunted spirits who flourish in the face of adversity, a tribute to the ineffable beauty that surrounds us. Joy is a universal language, yet it speaks to each of us in a profoundly personal way. It’s a reminder that our happiness is both shared and singular, and it’s our collective responsibility to foster it in every corner of the world. As we celebrate Pride, let’s remember that our existence is not just an act of defiance—it’s a spark that ignites transformation. Let’s unite in spreading joy, not just as a feeling, but as a movement that honors the beauty in diversity and the strength in unity. #PrideMonth #JoyInResistance #UnityInDiversity #RadicalJoy 🌈

Happy Pride month to all! During this month it's important to remember this is not just a month about parades and parties, it's a month to celebrate how far we've come as a community and recognize how far we still have to go to ensure inclusion and safety for all LGBTQIA+ persons globally! I came out later in life after years of shame, enduring the horrors of conversion therapy, participating in the ex-gay movement, and living inauthentically. Yet, thankfully, I found the way out of all that and have been able to live authentically and proud of all of who I am. I'm grateful I work in an organization like Boston Consulting Group (BCG) that not only supports me but celebrates me. This has been life-changing! There are three things that I believe are crucial for LGBTQIA+ persons (and everyone really) to thrive: 1. Work on yourself and the journey to full acceptance of all of who you are - do this first! This can take many forms, but I recommend therapy and/or support groups to get started. 2. Close second, find a community of people, even if small, that you can be open and honest with, that allows you to show up as yourself and seek support in your journey, and cheers you on along the way. 3. Lastly, put yourself in spaces where you are celebrated instead of just tolerated. Match the spaces you're in and the tables you sit at with the deep intrinsic value you have - accept nothing less than full respect. This applies to social groups, family, work, communities, etc. And know that there are so many of us that may be ahead of you on this journey who are willing and able to step in to support you in each of the above. Reach out so you don't have to do this alone!

This latest article is more of a prayer, a hope, and a guide for aid organisations to fully embed all of the preconditions they need to proudly say that they are fully invested and able to implement diverse SOGIESC inclusion in their organisations. Of course, things don't always work in a linear fashion, and there are people inside organisations that do individual projects that are inclusive of individuals and specific communities, but that doesn't make an inclusive organisation. Many steps take energy, resources, expertise, and years of hard work. But what a great time to focus on what you can do as an aid organisation than Pride Month.
I wrote today's blog on Sunday after browsing LinkedIn and seeing all the 'Happy Pride' posts. The thing is that after six years in an LGBTIQ+ specific organisation, I have a fairly good idea of all the policies, tools and funding that are inclusive of people with diverse SOGIESC, and I do think that we have a long way to go. So, I wrote 15 steps that aid organisations can do to be proud this pride month. Many of these steps will take time, energy, effort and resources. They will take years to complete, and I hope you commit this Pride Month and consider your accountability mechanisms to be accountable for that commitment to fully embed diverse SOGIESC inclusion in your organisations, programs, and projects. I am here to help. https://lnkd.in/gPaCUzHy

As we celebrate Pride Month, I’ve been reflecting on why diversity and inclusion in the workplace remain such important topics and what they mean to me personally. I believe that one of the strongest biases that we need to overcome is the “like-me” bias, to ensure that we surround ourselves with different perspectives and experiences. Ensuring diversity at the forefront means giving everyone equal opportunity regardless of their gender, background, sexual orientation - which is fair and results in hiring and promoting the very best people. It’s also been proven over and over again (e.g., https://lnkd.in/eECSZDXX) that a diverse team outperforms an homogeneous one, all other things equal. So, promoting diversity means forming a stronger, better performing team…and inclusion? We should start from inclusion. Promoting diversity in a non-inclusive environment is a recipe for higher attrition at best and harassment at worst. That’s why I’m proud that being part of ABB is to be part of an organization committed to supporting LGBTQ+ communities by creating an inclusive environment that brings people together. It’s our duty to foster a sense of belonging so that our colleagues can bring their authentic selves to work every day. There is still work to be done but I remain committed today and every day to ensuring that everyone can #ComeAsYouAre - https://lnkd.in/ekp5nSGH #PrideMonth #Pride2024 #Diversity #Inclusion #LGBTTQ+ #Equality #ABB #ProcessIndusties #PulpandPaper

Empowering you to make a meaningful impact | Inclusive Content Consultant, LGBTQIA+ Advocate, Community Builder | Ex-Apple
Hey Pride ERG leaders! Here’s five things to keep in mind this #PrideMonth — from one former co-chair working double time each June, to you. 💪 You've got this: Adding #Pride to your regular workload can be a lot — but you’re in this role for a reason. Remember your ‘why’, lean into your community and have fun. 💛 Look after your team and yourself: Working on Pride can be very personal, and can take an unexpected emotional toll. So set aside time to rest, and don’t forget to check in with others as well. ⚠️ Focus on quality, not quantity: Pride isn’t about numbers—so don’t spend too much energy counting event sign-ups or Slack reactions. Instead, look for the impact you’re having on the person who needs it the most. ✋ Ask for help and say ‘no’ sometimes: You can’t do it all. So help others help you by telling them what you need. And try to push back on last-minute ideas… there’s always another Pride Month. 🤗 Be present and prioritise joy: It’s easy to forget that queer joy is as much a part of Pride as protesting. You’re here to help build a better world — so make sure you let yourself experience it too! Thank you for being here and being you. Now, repost this or send it someone who needs it! ♻️

This week's Bursting Through Knowledge and Power "Flex Your Allyship Muscles," explores how Allyship might present differently to different people during Pride month and all year round. "Meeting people where they are is also fundamental to the distinctiveness of the Bursting Through community. Different people have different comfort levels, interests, and ways they want to express Allyship." ..... read the whole story here. https://lnkd.in/g3iv2JDJ
