Don McAllister’s Post

Hey Workday, would you like some feedback from a user that's used your software probably 200 times and cursed during the majority of those interactions? Feel free to forward this on to your UX team (which I've applied to multiple times and would be happy to help find solutions to these issues myself). • First off, every time I apply at a new company using your software, it says "this email is already in use", but I can't log in using my previous credentials, so I have to reset my password *every* *single* *time*. • Secondly, once I'm in, you ask me to upload my resume, but you don't parse ANY info from it, so I have to enter all of my extensive work history *every* *single* *time*. • Thirdly, this process takes me so long (I'm, shall we say, a "seasoned" employee) that the page times out and *saves none of my work history* • Lastly, I'm going post this and then go reenter my work history, education and skills into your application now for the umpteenth-hundred time because you're a very popular workforce management tool and I'm still seeking employment. 🙄

Don McAllister Few points I would like to bring to your attention. 1. Many companies use Workday as their recruiting platform and all the data and password policies and requirements are managed by the company itself. So, just because two companies use WD doesn’t mean that they have same password policy and data should be managed by at platform level. And in the world of data and compliance, processing data is critical. A user should have the control on which company they want to give info to. Being a Sw product designer, I am sure you are aware of how multi-tenant SaaS products must work. 2. Most ATS needs ATS compatible resumes. Many of the flashy and visual resumes cannot be parsed through ATS efficiently. As a job seeker, it’s important to validate your resume is ATS compliant. May be if you could share the ATS compaint resume which still cannot be parsed through Workday, that’s a constructive feedback for them to work on. All the best with your job hunt.

When I was in my last job search, I would groan every time I got taken to Taleo, ICIMS or Workday. I knew I was going to have to manually input every single company name, every single title and every single experience section every single time even though I was just required to upload my very boringly formatted resume. Some nights I would just be like, I just don't want this job bad enough to go through this again. If Greenhouse and Lever can make it such a painless process, why can't the rest of them.

Don McAllister - let me put you onto a gamechanger called Simplify CoPilot. You set it up one time, and it will autofill your applications every time it recognizes a particular ATS. While it won't fix the login issue, it will accurately fill out your application to your specifications every time. I finish Workday applications in under a minute. It even fills out my voluntary demographic answers for me. It works for Greenhouse, Ashby, Lever, Jobvite, ICIMS, and probably even more. And it is free! Just set it up and download the chromse extension and hit the Let's Do It button, every time the extension recognizes your application meets their auto-fill requirements.

9 out of 10 times the Resume will parse fine. The 1 time it does not parse is because the Resume is probably in a format that the system is not able to read. In the past I have tested with various resume and only once in a while it would not parse. Also, the parsing accuracy will rarely be 100% but should be close to 90% or above (again depending on how your resume is formatted). If this is happening to you every single time, you may want to look into your resume format to make it a bit more simple. If you are applying at a new company, it will NEVER say that your email already exists. In all probability, you already created an account sometime in the past OR someone used your email to create an account (which is rare but can happen). Most importantly, Workday will not share account credentials between companies.

If you’re applying at different companies, those companies store your information - not workday. Workday doesn’t provide your information to everyone who uses their platform. The parser works great for most document types. If you have any formatting (lines, certain dots) it can kill the parser. The companies set the application needs and processes, not workday. Workday isn’t my favorite but the companies you’re applying for own more than workday themselves.

Thank you for sharing this feedback, Don. We will share it with our teams.

Don, I feel your pain! There's a plug-in called Simplify that will auto-fill job applications for you and it works with Workday. I used it last year during my search. Good luck!

I would suggest using the Import from LinkedIn option, which most companies have available. It imports information from your LI profile directly rather than parsing. It's much faster and more reliable.

This tip might be somewhere out there already but I have figured out a way to game the system a bit. I literally reuse my email and password across every workday instance. Since they don't share information it's kind of like having SSO, haha. If anyone wants to hack my Workday go for it. Also, happy to share my resume but I have a resume that parses at like a 95% accuracy. It's not the prettiest thing but it's got all of the necessary info and is easy to read and scan. So I share your hate for Workday but I've gotten to the point where it takes no longer than a few minutes to apply to a Workday role.
