As the co-founder and head of product at Ketch, I've been observing a frustrating trend in the privacy software market that I believe warrants a discussion. Let's dive into it. Small cookie banner providers are driving down the perceived value of privacy software. They're offering solutions for as low as $100-$200 a month. On the surface, this sounds like a steal, right? But here’s the kicker – these low-cost options just don’t cut it when it comes to true compliance and enabling permission data throughout your business. It's like comparing a tricycle to a high-performance vehicle. Sure, both have wheels, but only one is going to get you where you need to go with speed, efficiency, and safety. The hundred-dollar cookie banners? They might get you a compliance “check” on the surface, but there’s nothing under the hood. So, what gives? Why are we letting these tricycles set the pace in a race meant for high-performance vehicles? I'm curious to hear other opinions. Do you think the market is undervaluing privacy software? Let's talk about it. 🚀 #dataprivacy #privacytech

Don’t look now, but your car may be spying on you. Unless you drive a pre-digital model, your car’s maker is likely collecting all kinds of data about you, including your race, your driver’s license numbers, how fast you drive, what music you listen to, and even your sexual habits, according to a new report from Mozilla. Mozilla’s September 6 study, “*Privacy Not Included,” details the organization’s investigation into 25 car brands and their data collection practices. A simple reading of the carmakers’ data privacy policies shows that they failed to meet even minimum standards, Mozilla says. According to the report, carmakers collect, aggregate, share, and sell consumer’s data, and there’s not much car owners can do about it.

Our mission at hoggo? Simplifying and automating privacy assessments in your business processes so that you can stop worrying about it. We knew this journey would have its fair share of challenges, and I’ll be honest, we haven’t been disappointed so far. But, we’re committed and moving forward, one step at a time, while continuously reevaluating, reassessing, and adopting emerging technological approaches. At this stage we're happy to share that we launched the early release of our Marketing Risk Radar. #Marketing and #privacy are a problematic duo, but we hope our tool can make them get along better while making your life a bit easier (and boosting your customers’ trust). The best part is, it's completely free. So check it out! (link in first comment) All we ask for in return is that you consider sharing your feedback with us, whether it’s positive or negative. Also, help us spread the word by sharing this with people that could benefit from it. 🙏 And now, it’s back to work for us….

Do you know how motor vehicle manufacturers are using your data and what they are collecting? Read on. Here is a very , very interesting deep dive by Mozilla. Mozilla reviewed 25 car brands and concluded: > They were terrible at privacy and security > They collect too much personal data (all of them) > Most (84%) share or sell your data > Most (92%) give drivers little to no control over their personal data > They couldn’t confirm whether any of them meet their (Mozilla's) Minimum Security Standards Mozilla concluded: "We spent over 600 hours researching the car brands’ privacy practices. That’s three times as much time per product than we normally do. Even still, we were left with so many questions. None of the privacy policies promise a full picture of how your data is used and shared. If three privacy researchers can barely get to the bottom of what’s going on with cars, how does the average time-pressed person stand a chance?" Insurers would be well served ensuring any applications or partnerships they have that involve collecting and using connected car data are robust! Article here: https://lnkd.in/gQpRAVxW

In a 2022 survey by Acquia on consumer privacy and the customer experience, two major conclusions were reached: 1. Be very transparent about customer data. A company should clearly explain why it collects it and whether or not it sells it, describe how it uses it, and how the company keeps it secure. 2. Give customers control over their data. This means obtaining their consent, providing access to their information, allowing them to edit it, and complying when a customer asks for it to be forgotten. So it pains me to see some industries (e.g. automotive manufacturers) completely failing to address customer’s concerns and may even flout their disregard for privacy in the name of targeted marketing or data selling to third parties. A published study by the Mozilla Foundation in September 2023 noted that EVERY CAR BRAND (25) flunks, receiving failing marks for consumer privacy, a first in their buyer's guide seven year history. Shocking results!

Cars are collecting, sharing, and selling your data, and you might not even know it. Shocking, right? According to a recent study by Mozilla, cars are the worst product category for privacy. Even worse, in some cases, you opt into it just by opening the door and getting in the car. Check out the full story on the research Mozilla did here: https://lnkd.in/dCh6KMJu #PrivacyMatters #DataPrivacy #CarPrivacy #PrivacyAwareness

Companies are trying their best to get as much data as possible, often at the expense of consumer privacy. However, even though they're collecting as much data as they can, 77% of IT decision makers still feel that the data isn't reliable, according to a report by SnapLogic. This is concerning, as poor data quality leads to uninformed business strategies that can cost a company millions. Reliable data is key to making informed business decisions. Cyder provides accurate, real-time data with six times the insights, all while empowering customers with privacy protection and control over their data.
