While social media platforms offer valuable tools for advocating against violence and harassment, they also present avenues for their perpetuation. Natasha Singer's recent article sheds light on the concerning trend of unchecked harmful technology use and how parents, teachers, and school districts are ill equipped to address it.
The lack of adequate training in social justice and empathy-centered tech practices contributes to these issues. Without intervention, these incidents will continue. This fall, I am touring schools to educate students on the positive and negative aspects of social media, emphasizing online safety and social justice. Leveraging my experience with Catcalls of NYC and Chalk Back, I aim to equip students with the knowledge to navigate the digital world securely.
