"I do not think anyone in this House, or out of it, needs to be convinced that our world has become a more dangerous place." With this statement, Singapore Minister for Defence, Dr Ng Eng Hen, set the tone for his speech at The Committee of Supply Debates 2024. We quote his remarks below, on the use of #drones and #CUAS along with an infographic on SAF2040 released on a previous occasion, but illustrating the military use of drones: "We have set up groups to brainstorm and develop sustainable counter-measures. They include off-the-shelf solutions, like Jammer Guns, or our usual rifles fitted with a Smart Fire Control System, an onboard computer to accurately shoot down a small drone." "... our Navy ships will have Close-Range Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) by the second half of this year, to extend their range for surveillance." "The use of UAVs will also filter down to soldiers in the Army ... our Army soldiers can use their own micro-UAVs. They will be an asset for soldiers on foot for last-mile surveillance." Over a decade ago, my belief was expressed that drones (sUAS) were going to make a huge impact around the world. Today, it’s been proven that is the case on almost every single aspect of life. Inspections, public safety, military, deliveries, photography and the list goes on. This video showcases an interesting development where the US military is using sophisticated scopes mounted on rifles to train and shoot drones down, but using “drone buster” to interdict them. As mentioned in the video below, there’s layers to the proper response to what kind of drone threat it is. The video below poses an interesting question: what are your thoughts on an AI system, designed to use a swarm (group) of drones to attack a target? How would this be prevented and/or stopped? 👏 Tesseract Ventures has received a contract to manufacture nano drones for the Headquarters, US Special Operations Command. The deal covers the assembly of the company’s proprietary Special Warfighter Assistive Robotic Machine (SWARM) solution.
