Exciting AI news from Finland! 🇫🇮 AMD is set to acquire Silo AI in an all-cash transaction valued at $665 million. For those unfamiliar, Silo AI is a Finnish AI startup founded in 2017. It's grown to be one of the largest private AI labs in Europe, offering tailored AI models and platforms to enterprise customers. This marks the largest AI acquisition in Europe in a decade, since Google's acquisition of DeepMind in 2014. Congratulations to the entire Silo team!
With immense pride, I am thrilled to announce that Silo AI has signed an agreement to join forces with AMD. Silo AI and AMD have an aligned mission to create a global leader that will shape the future of computing, while preserving the essence of Silo AI as a world-leading AI lab. In 2017, Silo AI set out on a mission to ensure Europe has an AI flagship. Since then, we’ve evolved into a leading AI lab with over 300 experts across 6 countries and successfully partnered with over 100 customers. Looking back, it’s clear to me that our initial instincts were right; there was indeed a clear need for a leading AI lab to contribute to real-world problems. I’m proud of how we’ve gotten here. Together, we’ve built a company with a distinct brand, an ambitious yet humble culture, and a vibrant community of some of the brightest scientists, engineers, and business professionals in the field. Joining forces with AMD, a leader in high-performance and adaptive computing, is a natural next chapter in our growth journey. While being ambitious yet humble, pushing the boundaries of advancement of technology lies at the heart of AMD, as it has at Silo AI. Silo AI will maintain its headquarters in Finland, while having a global presence and approach. As part of AMD, we will still be known as Silo AI. We will continue solving complicated R&D problems in AI, and contributing to society by training performant multilingual open-source models, particularly covering European languages.
