At this week’s Our Ocean Greece conference in Athens, Secretary John Kerry said there was an urgent need to “unleash “ a larger share of Private Equity funds into investments and technologies improving the environment. Impact Private Equity funds, such as OBI, are playing a crucial role in accelerating both the amount and effectiveness of such investments. Specifically, OBI‘s approach is to provide capital, impact metrics, and a broad set of business know-how to support late-stage growth companies in their value-creation journey. To survive this typical high-risk journey, growth companies with impact potential critically need: · financial resources, but also a broad range of operational and corporate expertise, such as going to market strategies, industrialisation of prototypes, internationalisation, M&A, etc to progress from a late-stage venture to an established and financially sound company. · clear, objective, and recognisable metrics to be consistently applied to evaluate, measure and monitor their ongoing impact on the environment. Experienced impact Private Equity teams are equipped to focus on these needs. OBI, in line with Secretary Kerry’s comments, is convinced that the environment is not a due diligence risk but an opportunity for investors and a key success factor for new technologies and companies. New grant alert 📣 On Monday, 27th November, a new grant within the transport sector will open 🚛 The Department for Transport is investing up to £2 million in innovation that supports the decarbonisation of transport systems within a local area. This competition aims to support R&D solutions that have the potential to: 💚reduce transport carbon emissions in local areas 🤝facilitate collaboration between Local Authorities (LA) and businesses to develop place-based solutions for transport decarbonisation The grant is open for a UK business that has a project that, amongst other things, must: 🛻detail the potential to reduce carbon and other harmful emissions from the existing local transport network 📍demonstrate the consideration of a place-based approach and how the solution proposed best meets the needs and attributes of the selected demonstration area 💡illustrate how the innovation activity fits in with, and will support local strategies or plans, such as a Local Authorities’ Local Transport Plan (LTP) or Net Zero strategy 🧑🤝🧑provide evidence of Local Authority senior leadership or senior level support for the proposed activity Total project costs: £100,000-£500,000 Project length: 6-10 months Closing date: 8 January 2024
