Cortex Sustainability Intelligence developed a really interesting report on decarbonization with Commercial Real Estate and the Property space which I found incredibly insightful. They talk about the 2024 predictions including: 🏢 Pressures from investors and regulations for the CRE industry to pursue decarbonization 🏢 Clearer data and ESG standards in 2024 for the industry 🏢 Finding a greater balance between profitability and decarbonization 🏢 Consumers becoming more aware of the importance of decarbonization within the real estate industry. What are some global approaches to increasing accessibility and satisfaction with sustainable design and construction? There are many ideas that we can do to make sure we meet our needs and don't impact future generations. This video shows a few ideas on how we can innovate sustainable ideas for the future. One that seems so simple but we still don't practice is to just produce what we need, this will eliminate half of the waste that is done in producing items, just producing the necessary means less waste we have to worry about to get rid of. Let's re-think the way developers look for land, keep the building to a minimum radius from a dense area. Developers look for areas away from cities so they can save money and make a profit but by doing this habitats are destroyed,. I’m pleased to announce the publication of Windmill Development Group's first official Sustainability Report. It follows our Sustainability Strategy, published in May 2023, and details our current sustainability strategy, commitments, targets, action plan, and progress to date. Over the past year, we’ve focused on three key areas as part of our sustainability strategy: governance, innovation and partnerships. I’m proud of the significant advancements we’ve made in these areas and would like to highlight three impactful accomplishments from the past year: 1.     In 2023, we were officially endorsed as a One Planet Living Global Leader, making us the first company in North America to receive this prestigious endorsement by Bioregional, the UK-based body which oversees One Planet Living. 2.     Through our Working Group program, we continued to refine and improve the Windmill Impact Standard, establishing ambitious short- and long-term carbon targets for both operational and embodied carbon, and imposing rigorous carbon targets on our projects, including the elimination of combustion for cooking, space heating, or hot water. 3.     Through our partnership with Civic Developments and CreateTO, the City of Toronto’s real estate agency, we are collaborating to address Canada’s housing crisis through our project at 2444 Eglinton Ave E. This project will be the largest co-operative housing development undertaken in Ontario in the past 25 years, delivering much needed affordable housing that will also be built to the highest sustainability standards.
