Healthcare data represents 30% of the world’s data, and protecting that data and privacy is a top priority. AI utilizes data for medical breakthroughs and has made incredible advancements in healthcare. However, many people still fear it due to misconceptions. Five arguments to replace fear of AI with truth, reason, and knowledge: 1. AI has no feelings and cannot replace functions that demand human interaction, empathy, and sensitivity. 2. Medical systems can process massive stores of information infinitely more quickly and thoroughly than any human clinician. 3. Medical systems can have limitations and risks. 4. More healthcare personnel must understand the complex statistical associations yielding medical AI outputs. 5. Since the arrival of smartphones, people have been eager to adopt smart gadgets for more accessible and efficient living. Healthcare has successfully integrated innovative tech to save lives and improve workflows. "Smart hospitals" are the future of healthcare delivery, and staying competitive will mean keeping up with modern tech infrastructure. Some critical technologies transforming smart hospitals are connectivity, private network solutions, cloud computing, and real-time location system solutions (RTLS). June is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Month (PTSD) - a time to bring awareness to a condition that plagues so many veterans and provide insights on how they can reach out and receive help. PTSD is a mental health disorder that develops from experiencing a life-threatening event that can happen to anyone at any age. There are four primary symptoms of PTSD: 1. Reliving the event 2. Avoiding things that remind you of the event 3. Having more negative thoughts and feelings than before the event 4. Feeling on edge or keyed up Thankfully, there is hope and help for those who have PTSD; therapy and medications have proven to help. Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure therapy (PE), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) are three tested and proven methods of treatment that have helped many people. Veterans who have PTSD need to seek help. You are not alone. The band Metallica released a song a few months ago entitled, “Screaming Suicide.” The song lyrics paint a picture of what a person who is struggling thinks and feels during a crisis, and also expresses how important it is to hold onto hope and come out the other side back to life again. The song has been a great affirmation for people who have found themselves in this frame of mind to know they are not alone and that life is a gift to not diminish. Metallica expressed interest in working alongside VA Suicide Prevention to help develop veteran-centered messaging around the song. The PSA came out last fall and the band encourages veterans to call the Veteran Crisis Line (dial 988 then press 1) or to visit https://www.va.gov/REACH/ for access to help in life’s challenging times. The band has been showing the PSA at their live concerts backing up the messaging and telling the crowds, “You are not alone.” They are helping to spread the message of the Veteran Crisis Line, bringing attention, and pointing veterans to where they can get help.
