Big Is Best Built from Small
Seated in the TTC Subway’s front cabin, I watched the city blur past. Each stop and start brought a surge of anticipation. This journey was more than a daily commute; it was a glimpse into something grander.
As we moved from one end of the line to another, I was struck by the Subway’s seamless design. Each cabin mirrored the last, fitting together perfectly. The length of the train was mesmerizing, a testament to precision and careful planning.
Prof. Bent Flyvbjerg and Dan Gardner’s words from *How Big Things Get Done* echoed in my mind: “Modularity” was a simple idea but powerful. Building something big from small repeated parts. The Subway was a moving example, showing how small, consistent efforts could create something extraordinary.

In a lot of places in America, public transportation is synonymous with being poor or being in an unsafe environment. In other parts of the country, public transit is just a part of everyday life.
Here are some things about public transit that I like to bring up when talking about it:
1) Monthly savings to be put elsewhere instead of a car payment, insurance, maintenance, etc.
2) Can do your part with lessening vehicle congestion in densely populated areas which also helps reduce your carbon footprint if that's something you are passionate about.
3) Accessible and reliable public transit brings access to freedom and opportunity. Pre-Covid, employment often times was contingent on reliable transportation. If you don't have a car, you are limited to your options and/or forced to move, which isn't always the best option.
4) You don't have to worry about parking or how you will get your car home after a night out at the pub 🍻
